#ProPlantTips for Care:
Gladiolus flowers best in full sun in cooler growing zones but appreciates afternoon shade in hot climates. Any well-drained soil environment works great and these corms grow best when their soil isn't soggy and highly organic. These bulbs do appreciate moderate yet regular moisture access.
Plant these corms, which are round bulb-like structures, in the spring. Plant them about 6-8 inches deep. Groupings and rows have the biggest effect and impact on your garden, so plant your corms pointy side up about 5-6 inches apart.
Stake your flower wands unless you plant your Glads in a location protected from the wind. Deadhead the flowering spire as soon as the last flower fades but keep the greenery to make food for the bulb until they turn yellow.
Gladiola corms can grow as seasonal or annual accents in all USDA planting zones. However, gardeners in zones 8 to 10 can use these plants in the ground all year round as perennial accents! In zones 1 through 7, lift your corms up and store them for the winter in a cool, dry location. Each year you'll notice more and more little corms forming around the base of the parent corm for more blooms each year!
- Full Sun & Afternoon Shade In Hot Climates
- Moderate Moisture Needs
- Organic Well-Drained Soil
