The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Get all the charm and elegance of Japanese Maples, without sacrificing space in your landscape. The elegant and compact Shaina Japanese Maple Tree (Acer palmatum 'Shaina') delivers that dazzling, five-pointed palmate foliage everyone loves!
New spring leaves display an incredible depth of color. Welcome the new season with an extraordinarily bright red color to revive your spirits after a dreary winter. As the growing season progresses, you'll start to see some of the older foliage age to a mellow maroon. Don't be surprised to see a multi-hued foliage display on a single tree. Shaina is a slower-growing sport of Bloodgood Japanese Maple and is ideally suited to smaller gardens or container growing!
Even the wide-spreading branches are attractive. Call this a tiny tree, or consider it a useful shrub. Anyway you choose to use it, you'll have a lavish color display that works hard to delight you and your guests. Allow them to develop into a shrubby small tree, giving plenty of room to achieve the mature 6 - 8 feet height and spread of 8 - 10 feet. Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 5 to 8, these are easy-to-grow and adaptable ornamental trees!
Landscape Application:
Try just one as a focal point to heighten significant areas of entry or transition. For example, plant one at a natural bend in your planting bed to draw the eye and add excitement. It's no matter if you live in a tiny bungalow, or condo, or can spread out on an acreage. Shaina Japanese Maple is an incredibly versatile variety that can be used throughout your space.
Grow them in the ground, or place them in an oversized modern container to decorate your patio or balcony. They'll give you season-long color without fuss or muss. Prefer a streamlined style? You'll be forever fascinated with a single Shaina Japanese Maple in a spare, clean outdoor container on your patio or outdoor dining room.
Add several to a mixed shrub border. These gorgeous plants partner beautifully with steadfast Dwarf Norway Spruce and the bold blooms of Double Play Doozie® Spirea. The incredible hues of these special plants turn your garden challenge into a lovely feature!
Run a hedge to hide your unsightly chain link fence. For a solid privacy screen, plant them six feet apart on center. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next. As a nice bonus, they make a truly effective privacy screen. Use several of them to create a beautiful hedge for a blissful retreat.
Add them as a feature in a Japanese Garden, or just make your existing evergreen trees look more stylish. This "pop" of color is such an easy way to add glamor to awkward or underutilized areas in your landscape.
This is a perfect choice to gift as a housewarming present. Shaina is a durable selection of these beloved, showy trees.
New gardeners … grow your green thumb at the same time your Shaina develops. Gain confidence in your ability to care for plants with these splendid dwarf Japanese Maples.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
They perform well in either full sun or partial shade. The most important thing you can do is choose the right planting site. Plant Shaina Japanese Maple trees in either full sun if you are in a cooler climate, but in warmer climates the delicate leaves appreciate protection from the hot summer sun. Plant in a location with all-day dappled sun or afternoon shade.
Keep your plant healthy with a packet of Nature Hills Root Booster. It helps the entire root system gain critical moisture and micronutrients, and the beneficial effects last the entire life of the tree. Japanese Maple will grow in rich, well-drained soil. If you see puddles after rain, elevate your Shaina. It's easy, just bring in additional soil in a mound 18 inches high by three feet wide. Plant in that raised mound.
Shaina needs a medium amount of water on a consistent basis to remain happy and healthy. If you are growing them in a container, that schedule is even more important. Apply a thick, three-inch layer of pine straw or pine bark mulch over the root zone to keep it cool. For a low-maintenance landscape, place your plants on an automated system of drip irrigation. This low-intensity project can save you time and support your tree.
Although it's unlikely you'll need to do much pruning, you can shape it in late winter. Please take your time, and make a pruning plan first.
