How to Use Japanese Anemone in the Landscape

Keep them in huge outdoor containers, or let them spread to fill your bare ground with outstanding form and color. You'll look forward to the charm of Japanese Anemone all season-long.

With fine-textured foliage and sky-high slender flower stems, Japanese Anemone becomes a standout in the late season landscape. They partner so well with Hydrangeas, Roses and Prairie-style perennials.

Perk up an established foundation planting the easy way. Simply tuck Japanese Anemone under the skirts of your steadfast evergreen shrubs and let them spill over the edge of your sidewalk.

Guests will think they are walking into a Fairy Tale! Turn a safe and solemn, old-fashioned garden design into a wonderfully free Cottage-style garden.

Take them to the backyard and side yards, too. Feature them in a narrow, brand new mulched bed to crown the east side of an ancient Spruce or Fir tree.

Use the Japanese Anemone to soften edges, corners and fill in empty areas in your borders. Repeat them along the design for a consistent look.

In partially shaded areas, add them with Snowdrop Anemone for white flowers spring and pink flowers from summer through fall. Maximize the look of your underutilized areas in your yard with these big-impact blooms.

Fill a wide, sunny spot with their charming blooms. Mass plant them in a zigzagging pattern, spaced 18 inches apart.

Mulch new mass plantings, and keep them weeded. It won't be long before they grow together and touch.

Add excitement to stands of groundcover Juniper with drifts of Japanese Anemone. Weave them in at the base of showy Sumac shrubs.

Or, keep them contained in whiskey barrels along the length of your patio. Plant them around your favorite Tree-Form Rose of Sharon; or cozy them up next to a dark-leaved Tiny Wine Ninebark shrub.

#ProPlantTips for Care

They'll do great in full sun or part shade. Give them humus rich, but well-drained soils for the best results.

Give your Japanese Anemone a consistent amount of water regularly to keep it moist, but not soggy.

While planting, include Nature Hills Root Booster in the backfill soil to get the best performance. This time-tested formula contains beneficial mycorrhizal fungus that creates a symbiotic relationship with the tiny feeder roots. It never wears out!

Add a three-inch layer of mulch over the root zone. Then pull the mulch back so it doesn't rest directly against the stems.

Prune them down in late winter for a fresh start to the new season. At that time, you can apply a slow-release fertilizer for flowering plants or a top-dressing of compost.

Place your order for our expertly grown Japanese Anemone. Professional garden designers love the double forms of these rock-solid, fall blooming Anemones...and you will, too.
