Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Impressive bright fluffy greenery for your large-scale landscape, the Green Whisper® Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum 'JFS-SGPN') is an inviting specimen that sports a vertical pyramid of verdant garden punctuation! The airy branching and lush color are only outdone by the soft, pillowy, finely-textured foliage.

Green Whisper® makes you do a double take with its refreshing bright green all growing season! Bald Cypress typically defy the conventional conifer classification and shed their foliage after a burst of cinnamon fall coloration. The strong limbs and small, soft, feathery needles are fantastic habitat for birds. Then in the autumn, round green cone-like balls bedeck your tree's canopy.

Green Whisper® grows tall, upwards of 50-55 feet in height and can spread to nearly 30 feet wide at maturity, and grows fast for a tree! Keeping their family's penchant for loving moist soils and soggy spots. In winter, while we say goodbye to the green foliage, you'll still be able to enjoy the shaggy reddish bark that stands out against the snow! Heat and cold-tolerant, Bald Cypress thrive in USDA growing zones 5 all the way through 10!

Planting and Application:

Green Whisper® is a front lawn specimen and shade tree. Few trees have this impact on the landscape as these but you do need the room for them to spread their roots. They need sun and love moisture, so riparian areas, along with water features, brooks and bodies of water, and rain gardens are their preferred locations. will filter runoff water from roofs or driveways beautifully. They do equally well in regular soil locations and even tolerate occasional drought!

If grown around ponds or standing water, the root system may eventually develop a few of those cute "knees" after several decades. If grown in drier conditions, it will not develop knees. But, don't worry - it will still be cute! Anywhere they're grown, these are very tough trees!

Add curb appeal with these mighty trees as well as create bird-friendly sanctuaries and shade for any part of your landscape! You'll want to use these trees as an anchor in a large natural planting. Try underplanting them with Azaleas or Rhododendrons that will love the slightly acidic conditions the fallen needle mulch provides.

  • Fluffy Soft & Feathery Bright Green Foliage
  • Unique Deciduous Conifer!
  • Reddish, Shaggy, Exfoliating Bark
  • Tall, Pyramidal & Impressive Form
  • Shade & Bird-Friendly Habitat
  • Impressive Specimen, Accent & Wet-Soil Tolerant Tree

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Bald Cypress are fine-textured trees and needs plenty of room to reach their maximum size. This tree is truly adaptable to most soils. It absolutely loves slightly acidic soil. Give it medium moisture to establish for the first several growing seasons. Baby it a bit and you'll be so glad you did! Adaptable to any kind of well-drained soil, from average to moist to wet. In drier settings, provide a 3-4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch over the entire root system to keep them insulated and retain moisture. If needed, prune any crisscrossing branches in late winter or very early spring.

  • Full Sun, Tolerates Partial Shade While Young
  • Average to High Moisture
  • Any Acidic Well-Drained Soil
  • Appreciates Mulch in Drier Locations
  • Prune Late Winter/Early Spring
