The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

The free-flowering Burgundy Gaillardia (Gaillardia x grandiflora 'Burgundy') is a very colorful summer-to-fall blooming bright burgundy-red perennial with fluttering, toothy petals! Pollinators are drawn from miles around to feast on these nectar-rich and pollen-laden blooms! The saturated rich deep-red petals create darling daisy-like rays around a darker burgundy fuzzy center. Each with a pollen-filled yellow eye in the middle of each bloom! Held aloft on long, slender stems above a mound of coarse green foliage that is a unique gray-green and Basil-like in appearance.
Also known as Blanket Flowers, Burgundy grows into a rounded mound 23-29 inches tall and 12-18 inches wide when in bloom. Xeric and drought-tolerant cousins to the hardy native wildflower, these are highly-adaptable perennials that add lively color to bouquets, gardens large and small, as well as summer pots and planters in the sun! The blooms start in late spring and keep popping up until early fall, and attract swarms of nectar-hungry bees and butterflies and also plenty of pollen for beneficial pollinators!
Gaillardia profusely reblooms all growing season long, and just like their wildflower cousins are cold and heat-resistant throughout USDA hardiness zones 5-8. So you know there is little these tough herbaceous perennials can't handle in your landscape! Gaillardia are also highly resistant to deer and rabbits!
Planting and Application:
Try pairing Burgundy with its little sister Sunrita® Burgundy Blanket Flower for a tiered planting of varying heights and that rich saturated hue along beds and border edges or en mass on eroding hillsides and hard-to-mow slopes! Gaillardia adds a bright pop of color to the edges of sunny garden beds or in cut flower borders. Blanket Flowers are ideal for cheerful color in Rock gardens. You'll love the radiant blooms cheerfully flowering along the side of your driveway, or lining the sides of sunny pathways, and watch them thrive in that 'hell strip' between the sidewalk and road!
Perennial beds gain vivid red hues all summer long until frost! You'll turn any garden into a pollinator garden or updated modern wildflower planting with these long-blooming, nectar, and pollen-rich flowering plants! That bright red hue and smaller, space-saving size means intense color for porch and patio planters, and mixed front porch containers for stunning blooms without the fuss!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Perennial Gaillardia thrives in dry or windy sites and locations with average fertility. Growing vigorously in any type of well-drained soil, and doing the best in full sun. It tolerates some dry soils once established, but it does not do well in heavy clay soils. Preferring regular moisture but can become very drought resistant. Gaillardia goes to seed freely, so deadhead after the blooms fade is recommended to prevent self-sowing and to encourage new blooms in profusion! Prune back the mound in late fall once the foliage begins to yellow.
- Vigorous in Full Sun
- Low to Average Soil Moisture
- Very Well-Drained Soil & Average Fertility
- Deadhead to Prevent Reseed & Encourage Rebloom
- Prune Back Late Fall
- Resistant to Rabbits & Deer
Vigorous growth and hardy nature, the cheerful Burgundy Gaillardia is a fantastic extended-bloom perennial that honeybees, butterflies and you will all enjoy! Order your easy-care flower power now from the perennial experts at NatureHills.com!
