Growing Zones
Carpets of fiery red, the Frost Fire Dianthus (Dianthus × allwoodii 'Frosty Fire') is a petite powerhouse that lights up sunny borders with its frosty white and fire-pink blooms! A fragrant, reblooming variety, this charming perennial thrives from late spring into early summer, with repeat flower flushes well into fall when deadheaded. Compact and cold-hardy, it's ideal for high-visibility spots where its spicy clove-scented blossoms can be appreciated up close.
Rounded and mounding in form, Frost Fire Dianthus reaches just a few inches tall and spreads about a foot wide. Its blue-gray, narrow grass-like leaves stay evergreen in mild winters, adding color and contrast even when it's not in bloom! The starry, serrated flowers sit neatly above the foliage on short stems, creating a dense carpet of color when in full flower.
Native to Europe, especially alpine regions, Dianthus, also known as Garden Pinks, is well-adapted to temperate climates. It's a cousin to Carnations, known for their spicy fragrance and ability to thrive in lean, rocky soils. This variety is a standout in USDA zones 4–9, appreciating cooler summers and good drainage.
