Fantastic hot pink blooms! Spring in the south is a bevy of blooms, but none quite as iconic as the Azalea. Spring Azalea blooms are the stuff of art, poetry, and fashion steeped in Southern tradition. Unfortunately, so much of that beauty is fleeting, lasting only for a few weeks of spring and no longer. But we are so happy to introduce you to Evermore Hot Pink Azalea (Rhododendron EVERMORE 'SCHXOHI-17')!
This mid-sized broad-leaved evergreen shrub has a huge flush of fluorescent hot pink blooms in the spring, but then keeps on blooming all summer and well into fall, too! It doesn't become 'just a background' plant when the flowers fade like other Azaleas. It gives you color in all but the coldest months, and even then it is evergreen in mild winter areas!
Evermore Hot Pink Azaleas are bred to be disease resistant and hardy in zones 7-9. They are also insect resistant and handle the heat and humidity of these zones with grace. Growing into a neat and tidy 3-4 foot tall and wide ball of year-round greenery, these dark green shrubs look lovely no matter where they are situated! This low-maintenance flowering ornamental tolerates full sun, partial shade, and heat, as long as the soil is mulched and you are ready with a hose during extended drought.
Planting and Application:
And what color it gives! The name tells you exactly what you get - Hot Pink. The ruffled candy-pink petals are in double layers so that you have tons of color from each flower and tons of flowers from each shrub. Bottom line - tons of color! An eye-catching broad-leaved evergreen focal point like this deserves to be front and center! Foundation plantings, curbside and sidewalk plantings that divide your home from the sidewalk while setting off your home from the rest! Your yard will become the highlight of the entire neighborhood!
Plant it as a Thriller in your large seasonal containers or around a sunny porch, pool, or patio. Evermore makes a wonderful facer plant along the length of your mixed borders and evergreen hedges to attract loads of butterflies and even hummingbirds! Why not trim your front walk in these eye-catching beauties? You'll easily start the conversation with guests, and stop traffic while you're at it!
Use these beauties under windows where the flowers can be seen from the inside as well as the outside. Plant several together to form a stunning low hedge along your fence or driveway. Pair them in a patio bed with white Roses and deep purple Salvias for a punch of hot tropical color that can't be missed!
- Extraordinary Hot Pink Reblooming Blooms
- Rich Dark Green Broad-Leaved Evergreen Foliage
- Easy Care, Reliable & Tolerant
- Looks Great In Containers, Hedges, Foundations, En Masse & Specimens
- Foundations, Borders, Beds, Curb Appeal & Conversation Piece!
#ProPlantTips For Care
If you live in a climate with very hot summers, give them some shade in the afternoon for the best results. Ideally, Rhododendrons and Azaleas love a cool, moist, slightly acidic garden soil that is high in organic matter. Use pine bark/pine straw mulch to add acidity and improve your soil over time. Provide a moderate amount of water on a regular basis. Keep containers watered by setting them on a drip irrigation system to keep it easy for yourself.
When planting Azaleas in the ground, it's better to plant higher, than too low. Mound up when planting by leaving a few inches of the root ball showing above the ground. Pull pine bark or pine straw mulch up to cover the root system. Plan to reapply a mulch layer each year.
Right after the spring bloom is past, give your plants a light trim to encourage new flowers and correct shape, as needed. Avoid any major summer or fall pruning, or you will remove next year's spring flowers. Weed your plantings regularly, as the shallow roots won't like the competition. Apply a good, organic, slow-release Acid Lovers fertilizer in early spring according to the product directions.
- Grows in Full Sun & Partial Shade
- Acidic Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate Moisture & Mulched Beds

Azalea and Rhododendron Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the best place to plant an Azalea bush?
Azaleas and Rhododendrons prefer partial shade (both dappled shade all day or morning sun with afternoon shade). Plant in a slightly acidic, consistently moist, enriched and well-drained soil location for best results. Their shallow roots dislike soggy soil but thrive with a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch over their surface.
How big does an Azalea bush get?
Evermore Hot Pink Azaleas can reach around 3 - 4 feet in height and width in optimal conditions.
Are Azalea bushes low maintenance?
Azalea and Rhododendron shrubs are very easy to grow and low maintenance. Water during drought, prune only after flowering and fertilize with an acid-loving organic, slow-release flowering plant fertilizer.
What is the difference between Rhododendrons and Azaleas?
All Azaleas are Rhododendrons but not all Rhodondendrons are Azaleas. Azalea tends to be smaller-sized with smaller leaves and stems, while Rhododendrons can be larger with stout branching and larger bloom trusses. There can both be either deciduous or broad-leaved evergreens.
