Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.
This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Clematis Rubens (Clematis montana 'Rubens') is a Chinese species that produces masses of soft mauvy pink 2.5-inch flowers that look very attractive against the dark bronze-green foliage. It was awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit!
The first Clematis to bloom each year, the Rubens Clematis has a vanilla-like scent that is absolutely unforgettable! Rubens is a gorgeous climber that needs a supporting structure to grow properly but it also looks beautiful growing through large trees or conifers and can obtain a height of over 20-25 feet! That chainlink fence will no longer be an eyesore!
Snip a few blooms for bouquets without worrying you'll deprive your pollinators of their nectar resource! Rubens Clematis is a reliable performer once established, though it takes a season or two to get going, so have some patience. Very hardy throughout USDA growing zones 6 to 9, these climbing flowering vines only spread 4-6 feet in width.
Planting and Application:
Fantastic flowering backdrops that add height and butterflies to your sun and part sun gardens! These charming Clematis pump out blooms from late spring to early summer and smother the entire vine and anything else they climb all over! Looking fantastic mixed with Roses, climbing over a trellis, or filling out the railings on a sunny staircase.
When not given a Pergola or Rock wall to climb on, Rubens becomes a clambering groundcover and acts as pretty flowering ‘living mulch’ that mingles around and between other flowering shrubs, rambles down retaining walls, or covers a hard-to-mow hillside or slope in pretty mauvy pink blooms. Even balconies can enjoy this Clematis in large planters and train the vines to climb around for shade and privacy!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Clematis care is easy! Fantastic in full sun and partial shade, just provide these deciduous vines with rich, porous, alkaline soil that has plenty of room for the roots to spread. The best performance is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, so apply generous mulch or a shallow-rooted ground cover near the base of the vine. Prune only after flowering is completed by removing any weak or dead stems. After a few years, Clematis appreciate being divided to improve vigor and reduce competition.
- Full Sun & Part Shade
- Moderate Regular Moisture Needs
- Prefers Enriched Well-Drained Soil
- Appreciates Mulched Beds
