Description

An enormous Cactus Dahlia with multiple rows of rolled, pointed petals, in a bruised, deep-burgundy to maroon hue! Black Narcissus Dahlia (Dahlia 'Black Narcissus') is a symmetrically arranged gothic beauty! Unfurling into enormous pom-poms of saturated, deep, dramatic color!

Pollinators will adore these blossoms as much as you will! Adding mysterious color and drama to landscape beds and planters alike! Black Narcissus Dahlia is held above lush green pinnately compound foliage that spreads 18-24 inches wide and grows fast to an impressive 39-60 inches in height when in full bloom!

The flowers start opening in summer and continue to rebloom until frost in most growing zones! Use these perennial tubers as annual accents or seasonal container focal points in all USDA planting zones but can remain in the ground year round in frost-free winters.

Landscape Application:

Black Narcissus Dahlia is a must-have for the dark flower garden or adding depth to any sun garden setting! The brooding color looks fantastic among purples, reds, and burgundy blooms and adds some shock value among white and yellow flowers and plants with chartreuse foliage!

Add these huge flowers as mystifying in floral design vases or bouquets as they are edging garden beds and cutting garden borders. The dark blooms compliment Cottage and Perennial beds and borders as they do porch, balcony, and patio pots and containers!

The depth of the color is sure to stand out among lighter-hued flowers and attract pollinators from near and far! The dramatic coloration stands out among mixed planting and is delightful in butterfly gardens as they are nestled between larger shrubs and perennials, easily tucking into an existing garden or planter due to their smaller, compact size.

  • Big Bronzy Golden Orange & Yellow Dinnerplate Blooms
  • Pinnately Compound Lacy Lush Green Foliage
  • Fantastic For Bouquets & Pollinators
  • Huge Thrillers In Containers & Planter Specimens
  • Tall Specimens, Back of the Border, Accents & Focal Points

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Plant Dahlia bulbs in full sun for the best growth and the most blooms but delicate Dahlia foliage also appreciates afternoon shade in hot climates! The morning sun is best due to its drying power to clear the leaves of dew. They love good air circulation! The key to successfully growing Dahlias is well-enriched soil with regular fertilizer, and top-dress with 3-4 inches of arborist bark mulch for consistent soil moisture and protect the roots.

Referred to as 'bulbs' the roots of the Dahlia are tubers like potatoes and sprout from the 'eyes'. Plant Dahlia tubers between 10-12 inches deep in loosened, enriched soil. These modified roots need to be planted in very well-drained soil that won't become soggy. Tubers planted directly in the ground will start to sprout in about 3 weeks depending on your climate and weather.

Deadhead regularly for continuous rebloom and trim back yellowed foliage in the fall. Dig up the tubers for the winter. Store these bulbs in a cool, dark place for the winter.

These perennials need protection from freezing temperatures. While Dahlia can be planted in all growing zones, climates with cold winters need to "lift" the tubers in the fall before the ground freezes and store them for the winter. In frost-free winters, Dahlia can be kept in-ground all year round.

  • Full Sun & Partial/Afternoon Shade In Hot Climates
  • Well-Drained Enriched Soil

  • Prune After Foliage Yellows & Lift Tubers In Fall
