#ProPlantTips For Care
Belle of Georgia Peach Trees are hardy trees, disease resistant and self-pollinating. Resistant to bacterial leaf spot and brown rot.
Fruit trees need full sun to develop the best fruit, requiring at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Hardy in USDA zones 5-8, these are readily adaptable and tolerant trees in many growing zones.
Belle of Georgia adapts to a variety of soils, even tolerating poor soil, just as long as it is well-drained. For best results though, provide your tree with a good start in rich, organic soil, amended with manure and compost in a well-drained soil site.
For best results, fertilize your tree regularly with Dr. Earth Fruit Tree Fertilizer or a good organic, slow-release fertilizer. Add Nature Hills Root Booster while planting for a life-long symbiotic relationship with the tiny feeder roots.
Provide ample water for your young tree while it becomes established, not allowing it to dry out between waterings. Then reduce your watering to moderate, yet consistent moisture during the heat of summer and when fruiting.
While drought-tolerant, it’s best to protect your investment by providing supplemental watering in times of need. A generous layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill.
Prune to keep an open canopy for sunlight and airflow to reach the interior of the tree, and to remove dead, diseased or damaged limbs. Reaching 18-25 feet tall and 15-20 feet wide, It is easy to maintain this tree much smaller if needed, that way any sized yard can accommodate their own Peach tree! Peach Tree Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take for Belle of Georgia Peach Trees to bear fruit?
Nature Hills Nursery sells fruit trees with mature root systems that are already three to four years old, so you’ll enjoy fruit sooner than you would with younger trees! Expect a young peach tree to begin fruiting by the 3rd year after you plant it.
How Fast Do Belle of Georgia Peach Trees Grow?
Be sure to plant your peach in a sunny and well-drained location. Once your Belle of Georgia (Prunus persica 'Belle of Georgia') has been established (after the first year), it can typically add 12-18 inches of new growth in a growing season. If your plants are adding less than that in a season, it may be worth your while to check the fertility level.
Where do Belle of Georgia Peach Trees Grow Best?
Peach trees grow best in well-drained, fertile soil in at least 6 hours of full sun per day or more.
Do You Need 2 Peach Trees to Produce Fruit?
All peach trees are self-fertile, however planting more than one peach tree that blooms at about the same time, boosts yields on both trees and extends your harvest time!
Harvest Times for Belle of Georgia Peach Trees
Belle of Georgias are typically ready to harvest in August. Keep in mind exact harvest times are subject to change depending on the hardiness zones they’re being grown in.
Early-Season? Mid-Season? Late-Season? The terminology can be confusing for new peach tree growers. Weather, climate and your tree determine when it’s ripe.
When Should Belle of Georgia Peach Tree be Planted?
Bareroot peach trees can be planted in spring when they are available in your area. Container-grown peach trees can be very successfully transplanted all throughout the growing season. Check for first and last frost dates for your area with your local County Extension Office.
- Plant bareroot peach trees in the early spring.
- Plant container-grown trees anytime the ground is not frozen by digging a hole as deep as the soil line and twice as wide.

Excellent White Peach with Distinguished Family Ties
Belle of Georgia, or the White Elberta Peach as it was referred to in the early 1880's, was the sister plant of the Elberta Peach. Both are famous Georgia Peaches with a common ancestor.
Both varieties originated from the seeds produced by Chinese Cling trees owned by I.C. Plant.
Colonel Lewis A. Rumph received seeds of 10 peach varieties from his family friend, I.C. Plant in 1857.
Col. Rumph was a member of a highly regarded fruit growing family. His son, Lewis A. Rumph and wife Virginia, and his grandson, Samuel Rumph, both received Chinese Cling peach seeds to plant.
Not so long after this planting, the selection of the Elberta Peach was made by Samuel, while Lewis selected a very promising white peach from his seedlings fruit.
It is said that at the time, Lewis wanted to name the fruit after his wife but was concerned about the credit going to the state of Virginia, and not his home state of Georgia. Instead, the name Belle was chosen, honoring Virginia's mother.
The Belle of Georgia, like the Elberta, quickly achieved local appreciation and in time became as popular as the Elberta was, as a famous Georgia Peach. Today, it is considered one of the most adaptable white peach available.
