Autumn Coral® Azalea has a single form that has soft coral pink flowers, dotted with bright fuchsia centers and blooms profusely in the spring, then much to your delight continues reblooming through fall. Also sized perfectly to plant it as a Thriller in your seasonal containers. Why not trim your front walk in these eye-catching beauties? Autumn Coral® attracts loads of butterflies and even Hummingbirds!

#ProPlantTips For Care

Azaleas appreciate full sun in cooler growing zones, but filtered sunlight is also ideal, but morning sunlight is best to dry the leaves of dew. Protection from the afternoon sun may also be given by fences, shrubbery, or screens. The roots of Rhododendrons and Azaleas are very delicate and unable to penetrate heavy or rocky soils, so loose, enriched and highly organic soil with excellent drainage is important! Azaleas love cool, moist, slightly acidic garden soil that is high in organic matter. Use pine bark/pine straw mulch to add acidity and improve your soil over time. Provide a moderate amount of water on a regular basis. Keep containers watered by setting them on a drip irrigation system to keep it easy for yourself.

When planting Azaleas in the ground, it's better to plant too high, than too low. Mound up when planting by leaving a few inches of the root ball showing above the ground. Pull pine bark or pine straw mulch up to cover the root system. Plan to reapply a mulch layer each year.

If your soil is high pH alkaline, or doesn't drain well, you can grow Autumn Coral® Azalea in pretty planters. Ensure there are several drainage holes, and plant them in an Acid Lovers potting soil mix.

Right after the spring bloom is past, give your plants a light trim to encourage new flowers and correct shape, as needed. Avoid any major summer or fall pruning, or you will remove next year's spring flowers. Weed your plantings regularly, as the shallow roots won't like the competition. Apply a good, organic, slow-release Acid Lovers fertilizer in early spring according to the product directions.

  • Grows in Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Acidic Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate Moisture & Mulched Beds
  • Easy-Care, Vigorous Flowering Shrub

Azalea and Rhododendron Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the best place to plant an Azalea bush?

Azaleas and Rhododendrons prefer partial shade (both dappled shade all day or morning sun with afternoon shade). Plant in a slightly acidic, consistently moist, enriched and well-drained soil location for best results. Their shallow roots dislike soggy soil but thrive with a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch over their surface.

How big does an Azalea bush get?

Encore® Autumn Coral® Azalea can reach around 2 - 3 feet in height and 3 - 4 feet width in optimal conditions.

Are Azalea bushes low maintenance?

Azalea and Rhododendron shrubs are very easy to grow and low maintenance. Water during drought, prune only after flowering and fertilize with an acid-loving organic, slow-release flowering plant fertilizer.

What is the difference between Rhododendrons and Azaleas?

All Azaleas are Rhododendrons but not all Rhodondendrons are Azaleas. Azalea tends to be smaller-sized with smaller leaves and stems, while Rhododendrons can be larger with stout branching and larger bloom trusses. There can both be either deciduous or broad-leaved evergreens.
