There are many exciting advances in fruiting plants these days. Today's crazy-busy pace, hectic schedules and smaller lot sizes are forcing these improvements. People need more from their fruiting plants, and that's a win-win for you!
How about a compact Blueberry that gives you TWO crops a year? Fantastic!
If you love fresh-picked blueberries, you'll want to include Perpetua® Blueberry (Vaccinium x 'ORUS-61-1' PP#24,209) in your landscape this year. This cutting-edge variety produces two crops of tasty blueberries a year.
It will produce the first, showy, white blooms in late spring. These develop into yummy, deep-blue berries by mid-summer. But that's not all!
A second rebloom of flowers occurs in summertime. Get ready to pick another late-season crop of berries in the fall.
Perpetua does a great job of rounding out both the early season and the late season. Add other Blueberry varieties to extend your season of berries!
Don't have room? No problem. Perpetua is a self-pollinating variety, so you only need one plant.
Want a lot more berries? All fruiting plants - even if they are self-pollinating - seem to enjoy partner plants. For the biggest harvest, plant two Perpetuas, or get another variety from the expert growers at Nature Hills. Perpetua has another big advantage over old-fashioned Blueberry varieties. Not only is this a double-cropping variety; it's also a gorgeous ornamental plant!
Part of the esteemed Bushel and Berry® collection, Perpetua is a compact shrub with upright canes. It grows into a well-balanced vase-shape.
The dark green foliage is glossy and cloaks the plant. They provide a fabulous foil for the lovely, white, bell-shaped flowers. The developing berries will also pop against that deep backdrop.
In late fall, the leaves burnish into a knockout purple and red fall color display. This noteworthy edible ornamental turns heads in all seasons.
They make incredible gift plants that are easy to care for, beautiful and produce two crops of healthy fruit a year. Better order quickly!
Many people across the country are on the hunt for this wonderful variety. Order Perpetua today!
#ProPlantTips for Care
Just like Azaleas, Blueberries need acidic, well-drained soil with a pH between 4.5 and 5.5 to do well. Pick up an inexpensive soil tester to find out how acidic your soil is.
If your soil is alkaline, you can either prepare a wide planting hole, amended with acidifying Sulphur, Peat Moss and 25% Pathway Bark. Or, push the easy button and grow your Perpetua in a container.
Pro Tip: It's easier to keep the soil pH acidic in a smaller environment, like a garden container. Dr. Earth Acid Lovers Organic and Natural Planting Mix. Fertilize with Dr. Earth Acid Lovers Organic and Natural Premium Fertilizer acidic fertilizer according to the directions on the label.
Oftentimes, city water can be quite alkaline. If you have a Rain Barrel, use neutral pH rainwater to water your blueberries.
Plant one in a pretty pot for your patio, or use two as Thrillers on either side of your doorway. You'll be right on-trend. Foodies and health nuts alike are really loving edible landscaping these days!
Perpetua will also look outstanding included in your mixed garden borders. Use it anywhere you want a hard-working accent. Just ensure you can easily reach all the way around your plants for harvest.
This is perfect for Kitchen Gardens, and Children's Gardens, too. What a nice way to share the wonders of Nature with the special kids in your life.
In colder areas, you can give Perpetua Blueberry a spot in full sun. However, in hot areas, it's best to provide protection from the hot afternoon sun.
Why not plant them on the east side of your house? Or jazz up mature evergreen trees with a pretty row of Perpetua in containers.
You'll enjoy fresh-picked, Perpetua double cropping blueberries in mid-summer, and again in fall. What a treat! Order yours today.
