Fantastic tree

Very fast growing tree. Doubled in size in one season. Had it for two years and around 10 feet tall when a rutting buck destroyed it one night last fall and it didn't make it through the winter. Tried to order a new one and now Minnesota won't accept them anymore. Then suddenly they started springing up around the tree I dug up. Well it must be seed I thought . So I started digging them up to transplant them only to discover they were coming up from roots that were left in the ground and they died. Yet more are coming up and I am leaving to develop more of their own root systems. Hope is still alive!

Hi Mark,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with your tree! It’s incredible how resilient nature can be—your tenacity and close observation really show here. It’s unfortunate about the loss last fall, and we completely understand how frustrating Minnesota’s changing shipping restrictions can be; they’re in place to help protect local ecosystems, but we know it’s a tough adjustment for dedicated gardeners like yourself.

Your discovery that new shoots are coming from the remaining roots is a great sign of the tree’s vigor! Allowing those new sprouts to develop will definitely help establish stronger root systems, and transplanting only once they’re well established is a smart approach. If you’d like, we can suggest tips on encouraging root establishment or recommend local nurseries so future replacements might be easier to source. Also, feel free to reach out with questions about care for these new starts or any other plants you’re experimenting with.

We admire your perseverance and enthusiasm—it’s this spirit that really makes a garden thrive over time!

Hi Mark,

Thank you so much for sharing your journey with your tree—what a resilient story it is! We’re sorry to hear about the setback with the rutting buck, but it’s wonderful to see such tenacity in those new shoots coming up from the roots. That’s a great sign of vitality and shows your care is really nurturing the tree’s natural ability to recover.

Regarding the Minnesota restrictions, those plant import rules can definitely be tricky, but it’s always worth checking periodically with the state's agriculture department for any updates or allowances, as regulations can change over time.

If you’d like to explore root stimulation techniques or transplantation advice to help these new growths establish stronger root systems, don’t hesitate to reach out—we have plenty of resources and tips to share! Keep nurturing those hopeful shoots; sometimes the best growth comes from patience and care like yours.

Very pleased

I purchased a Purple Robe Locust last year. A few branches broke off during transit and as a whole it was looking pretty sparse so I was wondering how it would do. So far this year it is looking wonderful! It has filled in and I even have flowers on it! I took pictures but unfortunately I don't see where I can post them.

Hi Marilyn,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with your Purple Robe Locust tree! We’re delighted to hear that despite the initial setbacks during transit, your tree has bounced back and is thriving with flowers—that’s fantastic news! As for sharing your lovely pictures, while the review platform might not allow image uploads directly, we’d love to see your tree in bloom! You can tag us on social media or send your photos via email to feedback@naturehills.com. It always brightens our day to see how our plants flourish in our customers’ gardens.

Hi Marilyn,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with your Purple Robe Locust! We're delighted to hear that despite the rough start with a few branches breaking in transit, your tree has bounced back beautifully and is now blooming—what a wonderful sign of healthy growth! It’s quite rewarding to see patience and good care pay off like yours has.

While our current review system doesn’t support photo uploads, we’d love to see your pictures and celebrate your tree’s success. You might consider sharing them on your social media and tagging us, or you can email them to our customer care team at support@naturehills.com. We also recommend continuing to water it moderately and keep an eye out for rust or webworm, which sometimes can affect locust trees, especially in their early years. A balanced pruning in late winter can help maintain its shape and encourage fuller growth if needed.

Thank you again for choosing Nature Hills, and for nurturing your beautiful Purple Robe Locust!
