Second shipment is beautiful! Great customer service.

Our first shipment wasn’t great, but we contacted customer service and they sent a gorgeous replacement!

Glad the team was able to turn things around for you, Claire. Denim 'n Lace is such a reliable bloomer once it gets established, so it is worth getting a healthy start. Thanks for giving us the chance to make it right, and enjoy that sage this season.

Very happy on arrival ! Packaged perfectly

Russian Sage is one of those plants that ships well when it's packed right, and it sounds like this one arrived in good shape. Thanks for letting us know, Jarrod. Get it settled in with good drainage and plenty of sun and it will reward you with those long lavender spikes all summer long.

Just as promised

Just as promised .....in great shape

Denim 'n Lace is a tough plant to ship well given how wispy the stems can be, so it's good to hear it arrived in solid shape. It should establish quickly and reward you with those long lavender spikes all summer. Thanks for the note, Brent. The Nature Hills Team

Happy Customer!

My Denim 'n Lace Russian Sage arrived in good condition although it was already "bloomed out" but that's just part of the growth cycle. I cut it back slightly, planted it and it's already pushing up new bright green growth. Hope to get to enjoy it this fall before first frost.

That new growth pushing up after a cutback is a great sign, Jennifer. Russian Sage is tough and fast to rebound once it settles into the ground. If you are in a zone where frost comes early, the plant should still put on a decent show before it goes dormant, and next year it will come back even fuller. Thanks for sharing the update.

Plant was well packaged

Plant was well packaged. Thought it would be a bit more full being a little older; it's planted and seems to be doing ok.

Glad it arrived well protected and is off to a good start in the ground. Thanks for planting it and sharing the update, Neil. -The Nature Hills team

My plants arrived in great shape and are looking healthy after being planted for a couple weeks now

My plants arrived in great shape and are looking healthy after being planted for a couple weeks now.

Russian Sage is one of those plants that tends to settle in quickly once it finds its footing, and it sounds like yours are off to a strong start. Blue Jean Baby in particular puts on a nice show once it hits its stride, with that soft silvery foliage and the lavender-blue flower spikes. Thanks for the update, Paula, and enjoy watching it fill in over the season.

Russian Sage

The Russian Sage plant I received of good size and very healthy. It seems to like its new home and is growing as I hoped.

Russian Sage tends to settle in quickly when it arrives in good shape, so it's great to hear yours is already taking off. As it matures it will really start to branch out and fill in, and a light cutback in early spring each year keeps it blooming at its best. Thanks for sharing the update, Sue.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the growing zones for this plant?

  • Denim 'n Lace Russian Sage thrives in USDA zones 4-9. This adaptable perennial handles hot dry summers, bitter cold winters, and humidity with ease. Plant it in full sun with well-draining soil for best performance.

How tall and wide does Denim 'n Lace Russian Sage grow at maturity?

  • Denim 'n Lace Russian Sage reaches 18-24 inches tall and wide at maturity, staying more compact than traditional Russian Sage varieties. Its mounded, upright form won't flop in wind or rain, making it perfect for front borders or containers. Shop at Nature Hills for this Proven Winners selection.

How often should I water Denim 'n Lace Russian Sage?

  • Denim 'n Lace Russian Sage is drought-tolerant once established and prefers infrequent, deep watering. Water newly planted sage regularly the first season, then reduce to only during extended dry periods. Overwatering can cause root rot in this hardy perennial.

How should I prune this plant?

  • Cut Denim 'n Lace Russian Sage back to 6-8 inches in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges. This woody perennial benefits from hard pruning to maintain its compact form and encourage vigorous blooming. Deadhead spent flowers during the growing season to extend the bloom period.

Does it attract hummingbirds?

  • Yes, Denim 'n Lace Russian Sage attracts hummingbirds with its nectar-rich amethyst-blue flowers that bloom from early summer through fall. The long blooming period provides a reliable food source for hummingbirds throughout the season. Plant it in a sunny spot in zones 4-9 for best results, available at naturehills.com.
