Where to Plant

  • Sunlight: This rose performs best with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. While it can tolerate light afternoon shade, you will notice fewer of the characteristic peony-style blooms and a slightly higher risk of powdery mildew in lower light.
  • Soil: Aim for rich, loamy soil that drains as well as a colander. If you are dealing with heavy clay, mix in organic compost or aged bark to improve aeration and prevent the roots from sitting in stagnant water.

Watering Requirements

During the first growing season, provide about one inch of water per week to help the deep root system establish. Once mature, this variety is surprisingly resilient, but inconsistent watering during high heat will cause the heavy, double blooms to wilt or drop prematurely. Always apply water at the base of the plant rather than over the foliage to keep the leaves dry and healthy.

Pruning Tips

Earth Angel™ Parfuma® blooms on new wood, so you should prune in early spring just as the buds begin to swell. Think of it like a seasonal refresh: cut the stems back by about one third at a 45 degree angle just above an outward facing bud. This encourages an open center for better airflow and ensures the plant puts its energy into vigorous new growth and massive flower production.

Fertilizer Needs

Use a balanced, slow release rose food or a formula high in phosphorus starting in early spring to fuel those dense, fragrant petals. Avoid applying high nitrogen fertilizers after midsummer because this triggers soft, tender growth that won't have time to harden off before the first frost. This helps the plant enter dormancy safely without the risk of winter kill on new stems.
