You'll cherish these colorful, easy-care stonecrop Sedum groundcovers. Who needs to hassle with weeds? Simply crowd them out with the sophisticated look of SUNSPARKLER® Firecracker Sedum (Sedum 'Firecracker').

Also known as Stonecrop, Firecracker is a fantastic Sedum cultivar, bred to branch vigorously even in drought conditions. This is a standout among this excellent class of plants, with black-cherry red foliage from April through November!

This low-growing plant is truly a "Designer's Secret" to pulling the entire look of your design together. And it's no monotone mat, either. The tiniest new leaves pop up out of the lush canopy, colored bright mint green! They add a depth of color and a ton of charm.

The color stays true all season, even in the hottest and most humid weather. In mild winter areas, the thick leaves stay evergreen all year. Introduced by breeder Chris Hansen, Firecracker spreads wide and covers the bare lower stems of taller plants. Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 4-10, these little accent plants grow to just 6-8 inches tall and wide!

Summertime brings vibrant pink flowers held high on ruby-red stems. Each cluster is composed of hundreds of star-shaped blooms, attracting bees and butterflies who seek a last resource of nectar before the season ends. The flower display lasts for over a month!

Planting and Application:

Firecracker Sedum begs you to examine it closely. Weave it between pavers and plant it to spill over your landscape edging. Polish up your landscape with deliciously dark burgundy, succulent foliage at your feet. Allow this useful and beautiful groundcover to fill in bare spots and soften the look of all your plantings.

This durable plant gives hot color in hot places. Use them in a spot where the sun beats down all day and the dirt is cracked and dry. Add some specimen boulders and call it your Rock Garden. Anywhere you have rocks on your property, tuck a Firecracker Sedum nearby! They love to scramble over rough, rocky ground. This is a perfect plant to include in low water, Xeriscape gardens.

Use Firecracker as a bold accent in a mass planting to cover hot, dusty bare ground. Place them 10 inches apart on center, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next. They can be planted closer for a faster carpet of color.

Use them wherever you can to naturally tie the look of your entire landscape together. It's this kind of subtle detail that makes such a difference for your visitors. Take this idea and run with it! Why not create special raised beds to showcase your Firecracker Sedum? They'll brighten even the most staid foundation planting or a mature stand of evergreen trees.

Create an easy-care SUNSPARKLER® Sedum collection to decorate your landscape and outdoor containers. Let them spill over the top of a retaining wall, or the edge of your outdoor containers. Even if you don't have access to a yard, you can use Firecracker Sedum. Plant them in ornamental outdoor containers on your sun-filled balcony, fire escape or entryway.

Don't baby these rugged succulents too much! There is a reason they are listed as plant materials for Green Roofs. And...they make many Fire Wise state lists for defensible space plantings. Don't let your landscape survive another season without these gorgeous small groundcovers to add texture and visual interest while suppressing weeds.

  • Rich, Burgundy Red Foliage All Season
  • New Leaves Emerge Mint Green
  • Vivid Pink Flower Clusters from Late Summer to Fall
  • Attracts Butterflies as a Late Nectar Resource

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Sedums are a perfect starter perennial for beginning gardeners. Once they are established with careful watering the first year, they'll become waterwise. Give Firecracker Sedum full sun all day long. It requires at least six hours of sunlight a day in all but the hottest climates. There, it will appreciate a little light shade in the afternoon. No need to gussy up your planting soil, either. It will perform beautifully in poor to average, dry to medium, well-drained soil. For the first year, you'll want to provide a medium amount of water on a regular basis, if you don't receive adequate rainfall. You won't need to apply supplemental water after the first year. Prune down in the early spring

  • Cold Hardy & Heat-Tolerant in Full Sun
  • Moderate to Low Soil Moisture Once Established
  • Nearly Any Very Well-Drained Soil Type
  • Prune Back Early Spring
