Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

You may call the Winter Aconite (Eranthis hyemalis) "darling", "cheerful", "sweet", or "sunny", but never call her late to spring. This lemon yellow blooming planting is often regarded as a harbinger of spring, blooming even before the Crocus have a chance and dance among the Hellebores that emerge about the same time. With stunning yellow blooms and fascinating green collars, the Winter Aconite is a welcome guest in a wide range of roles in the garden!

These petite plants may not grow very tall, but as one of the few early spring-blooming bulbs, what they lack in height they make up for in charm and color. This burst of color is as welcome to us as the early spring source of pollen and nectar is for the earliest emerging pollinator! You may not see them, but the stems can have red, brown to burgundy stems.

The Winter Aconite's stems push upward toward the sun, where they sport radiating collars: basals of deeply lobed bright green leaves. Soon after, they burst with bright yellow cupped blooms that shout, "Hey! Aren't I striking? I'm a sign of things to come and spring is almost here!"

It will be hard to resist picking some since they'll be the first color you'll see for the year. Luckily, you can pluck as many of the buttercup-like blooms as you please. They're quite durable and there's no shortage of their pleasant flowers. Found throughout USDA growing zones 3-7, and is a low-maintenance tuberous perennial that forms polite cheerful colonies.

Planting and Application:

Winter Aconite, also known as Winter Hellebore, are low-growing little ephemeral flowering bulbs! The green skirts surrounding the cheerful lemony blooms become gorgeous edging around your bulb garden beds, or spring garden borders both in rows, groupings, and wide drifts!

This plant is a member of the Ranunculaceae or Buttercup family and is native to southeast Europe, and is found in woodlands and meadows. They make an excellent choice for low-growing blooms at the base of evergreens or they're happy to light up your yard as a spectacular mass planting. After blooms, their leaves fill in to create a sea of green as a slow-spreading groundcover.

Add Aconite to your Rock Gardens, woodland gardens, naturalized throughout sunny Cottage beds and borders, as a row of encouragement along pathways and your sidewalks to let you know that better things are ahead!

Even containers and large planters will welcome these pretty spillers and fillers, add their burst of yellow early, then their foliage adds their greenery to the mix, grateful for the later emerging annuals or perennials in your pots to provide shade in the later summer months.

  • Cheerful Yellow Blooms
  • Late Winter & Early Spring Blooms - Can Push Right Up Through Snow
  • Skirts of Cute Green Leaves
  • Great in Containers & Early Pollinators
  • Mats of Creeping Edging, Naturalizing, Borders & Front Garden Color

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Plant these fall-planted tubers about 2-3 inches deep in the autumn months, in a full sun to partial shaded area. Choose a location with well-drained soil with moderate moisture access. These fleshy tubers need rich, organic soil and prefer alkaline conditions.

Deer and rabbits tend to leave these flowering bulbs alone, for the same reason that it is recommended that you wear gloves when handling them. The plants have toxins that can cause skin reactions in some. Clean the clumps in the early spring by raking away old foliage, leaving it in place throughout the winter for protection for the bulbs.

Because they naturalize, you may want to divide them every so often. They don't spread rapidly and need about a year to rebound after, so you can wait a while before doing so.

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Well-Drained Enriched Soil - Slightly Alkaline Conditions
  • Moderate Moisture Needs
  • Clean Mounds Very Early Spring
  • Deer & Rabbit Resistant

Bring a bit of spring into the winter months with the early flowering Winter Aconite flowering tubers for your garden! Now at Nature Hills Nursery! Enjoy these dormant bulbs shipped to your doorstep at the appropriate planting time for your growing zone!
