#ProPlantTips For Care
Iris are so easy to grow and Japanese Iris do best in full or partial sun (in hotter climates) and almost any kind of well-drained soil. These Iris thrive in moist, well-draining soil, but can be drought-tolerant once established. Provide regular moisture during the growing season and supplemental moisture during prolonged drought and heat.
In cold growing zones, Iris rhizomes should be top-dressed with 3-4 inches of arborist mulch, especially in winter to protect them from frost. Deadhead the flowers as they fade and trim back the foliage in the autumn. Every 3-5 years, divide the clumps and rearrange the rhizomes to keep them in tight formation and to prevent them from being buried too deeply, preferring to be planted more shallowly in the ground. It is a hardy, disease and drought-resistant plant.
- Easy To Grow In Full Sun
- Moderate Moisture Needs & Drought Tolerant Once Established
- Most Well-Drained Soil
- Deadhead After Flowers Fade & Trim Stems in Late Autumn
- Pest, Hardy & Disease Resistant
When you plant your Victoria Falls Tall Bearded Iris, keep the top portion of its rhizome exposed unless you live in a humid region. Order now at Nature Hills Nursery!
Information About Bare Root Iris
Plant Iris about 15-18 inches apart. Bare root Iris are shipped as nice fresh-cut divisions with two to three fans of green tops. Keep in mind each Iris variety can have slightly different-sized roots.
When planting, make sure 1/3rd of the rhizome is exposed to sunlight with the roots buried underneath. Note, that it's best to cover the rhizome with a thin layer of mulch or leaves to protect it during the coldest months but make sure to uncover them in the spring.
