Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

New things come around every year. But it's the simple pleasures that keep you coming back, though! The Vaniglia Sanguigno Blood Orange Tree (Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck 'Vaniglia Sanguigno') has been grown in Italy for centuries and never seems to go out of fashion, and we're sure you'll see why!

The exterior hides Pink Grapefruit-colored flesh that has such low acid content that all you taste is sweetness! Vaniglia has a hint of vanilla to it too, which just makes the flavor all the richer. Use the juice for drinks, cooking, baking, and candies. Since the acid is so low, it doesn't have to sit as long to ripen out the tart, it just gets sweeter.

Vaniglia Sanguigno is an easy orange to grow in a citrus-friendly growing zone. It is prized in the Middle East as a dessert Orange and will be just as prized in your home!

Planting and Application:

The glossy evergreen foliage and mid-sized canopy make these fantastic accents and privacy anywhere in the sun, creating hedgerows for privacy or groupings for enclosing seating areas from the world. These are perfect trees for edible landscaping, any front yard benefiting from the lovely shade they lend to your yard or garden beds.

Let the fragrant white blossoms perfume your outdoor rooms or porch planters while butterflies and bees buzz about, lured in by their scent. Prune smaller and easily keep at a manageable size so that even Northern gardeners can enjoy these as summer patio plants and houseplants throughout the winter months.

  • Medium-Sized Fruit With Pink Flesh
  • Acidless Super Sweet Flavor & Hint of Vanilla
  • Late Fall-Winter Harvest
  • Glossy Evergreen Foliage
  • Fragrant White Flowers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Citrus trees need full sun to do their best and they can stand up to more than 6 hours of direct sunlight a day with ease. Keep them in fertile, slightly acidic, very well-drained soil but allow them to dry out a bit between waterings, especially when potted. Prune after fruiting if needed.

Although Citrus can grow year-round in warmer regions (zones 9 and 10), they can also thrive in colder areas (zones 4 to 7) as long as the tree is brought indoors before the first frost of winter.

In zone 8, you can cover your tree in the event of a cold snap or unexpected overnight freeze. Citrus will need to be planted in a sheltered spot to avoid the worst of the chill, and not planted in a low area that collects cold air. If a spot like that is unavailable, or you are in a chill-prone climate, then you are safer planting Citrus Trees in a large, deep container with wheels to easily move them to a protected location or indoors when needed.

In cold growing zones, begin slowly acclimating your tree indoors in the fall, or into a protected location, eventually moving your tree inside. Indoor plants need a bright indirect sun window, greenhouse, sunroom, or enclosed patio for the winter. In spring, reverse this process and begin acclimating your tree to again be back out in the full sun all summer. This reduces stress and leaf drop.
