Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

At Nature Hills we handle, package and ship the products you order with the utmost care to ensure healthy delivery. Shipping and handling charges are calculated based on the tables below. We know how hard you work to elevate your lifestyle...why should your landscape plants be any different? With this specially raised Oak, there is no need to worry about sprays or harsh chemicals with this USDA Organic tree!

Create a beautiful, hard-working habitat for local birds and wildlife with this exceptionally showy Oak tree. Native USDA Organic Scarlet Oak Tree (Quercus coccinea) delivers many wonderful benefits for your landscape and local ecology. Once mature, Scarlet Oak is well-known for its large acorns that have cute, deep caps and feed a wildly large variety of wildlife.

The open canopy and large, lobed leaves cast delicious shade without a long wait. You'll instantly recognize these pretty, six-inch-long leaves for their bristle tips and deep sinuses. Each year, the leathery leaves turn bronzed, brilliant crimson for fall color.

Winters throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9 and growing 60 - 70 feet tall and can grow 40 - 50 feet wide! It also features smooth grey-brown bark that becomes shallowly fissured with age. Reduce your cooling costs by planting one at the southwest corner of your property.

Landscape Application:

Feel great about your commitment to helping with this special showpiece. The Scarlet Oak is a perfect choice for modern lots, as it starts life as a fast-growing selection. Great shade and lush specimens for your front or back yard! Set out that hammock or reading chair and then kick back and enjoy the cooling shade these lacy leaves cast over your landscape!

This hardy tree makes a world of difference. With one planting decision, you'll help support the animals around you, and shade your family and friends with ease. The birds love to nest among the limbs and many forms of wildlife eat the acorns. Oaks are also host plants to a wide range of Lepidoptera caterpillars (which in turn feed hungry chicks all spring and summer!).

On a larger property, plant several or partner with other species to create a park-like setting. Scarlet Oak takes center stage during autumn with its vivid foliage! Then keep your camera ready and catalog the number of animals and birds you see. Scarlet Oak mast supports blue jays, woodpeckers, wild turkeys, squirrels, chipmunks, and deer!

The bright fall color and statuesque form will quickly become your family's backdrop for portraits and family photos for the next 2-3 generations! Give the neighborhood kids a colorful pile to jump in...and memories that will last forever! These are lasting legacy trees in addition to being a keystone native species!

  • USDA Organically Grown - Grown Without Neonicotinoids
  • Distinctive Leathery Leaves Have C-Shaped Sinuses and Bristle Tips

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Needing full sun Scarlet Oak is blissfully fuss-free and grows in many types of well-draining soils, including those that remain dry periodically. After your tree becomes established in the landscape, it becomes somewhat waterwise...although we do recommend you give it supplemental water to keep it happy and healthy. Encourage a deep root system by establishing young trees with regular deep waterings and a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around the root system. Prune if needed in the late winter.

  • Full Sun Deciduous Trees
  • Well-Drained Soil Of All Kinds
  • Moderate To Low Moisture Needs
  • One Of The Best Oaks For Periodic Drought
  • Prune Late Winter

This Scarlet Oak was grown without the use of neonicotinoids. Please place your order for USDA Organic Scarlet Oak from Nature Hills to support the Audubon Society with its mission-critical efforts. Nature Hills is thrilled to offer so many organic choices...from fruiting trees to these amazing shade trees!
