Planting & Care

Where to Plant

  • Sunlight: Ensure this lily gets full sun, meaning at least 6 hours of direct light daily. While it can tolerate very light shade, too little sun will result in weak stems and significantly fewer blooms.
  • Soil: These bulbs require well-drained soil to thrive, as sitting in wet, boggy earth will cause the bulbs to rot. If you have heavy clay soil, improve drainage by mixing in organic matter or planting in a raised bed or container.

Watering Requirements

Keep the soil consistently moist while the plant is actively growing and blooming, checking container plants daily during hot spells. Once established, they are moderately drought tolerant, but inconsistent watering can cause flower buds to drop before opening. Aim to water at the base of the plant to keep the foliage dry and reduce the risk of fungal issues.

Pruning Tips

Wait until late fall after the foliage has turned yellow and brown before cutting the stalks down to the ground. It is critical to leave the green leaves alone after blooming because they act like solar panels, gathering energy to recharge the bulb for next year's flowers. You can deadhead spent blooms during the summer to tidy up the appearance, but leave the stem intact until the season ends.

Fertilizer Needs

Apply a slow-release, balanced fertilizer in early spring just as new shoots begin to emerge from the ground. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers late in the growing season, as this encourages leafy green growth at the expense of flower production and can make the plant susceptible to frost damage.

Formal clumps in neat rows along your walkways, or fronting perennial borders, filling spring and summer beautifully!

Smaller urban lots, sunny balconies, postage-stamp cottage gardens, and entry plantings are perfect for these miniature plants and their big blooms!

#ProPlantTips For Care

Not partial on soil type, any well-drained soil works, just don't let them dry out. Bulbs will not grow in wet or waterlogged soils. Mulch and compost enrich the soil and give them a boost.

Tiny Crystal enjoys both full sun and partial shade, growing strong throughout growing zones 3-9.

Deadhead after bloom but keep your foliage until fall to make food for the bulb, then cut back in autumn.

Add gorgeous snow-white radiance to your garden this year without sacrificing space! Order Tiny Crystal Asiatic Lily from Nature Hills today!
