Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Italy once again has provided us with priceless flavor! The Tarocco Blood Orange Tree (Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck 'Tarocco'). It was first introduced to Florida citrus growers from Italy in the 1880s and quickly spread to California citrus groves! Featuring bright orange skin, these are nearly seedless, juicy, and have a lively flavor! It will blow you over no matter how red the flesh gets.

Tarocco is the sweetest and juiciest of all of the Blood Oranges. There, it is still called the supreme "Arancia da Tavola" (table Orange) and commands a full 60% of all of the Blood Orange production and you will love the rich red-blushed flesh and sweet orangey-raspberry taste. Use the juice for drinks, cooking, baking, and candies.

Ready to harvest in the winter to early spring depending on your growing zone, Citrus-friendly climates can enjoy these as year-round evergreen landscaping specimens, while cooler northern growers can prune these smaller and keep them as patio plants. Just move them indoors or into a greenhouse as soon as there is the threat of frost.

Planting and Application:

Keep these mid-sized trees smaller for containers and patio planters in the sun, or bring them indoors to use as a gorgeous houseplant. Full-sized trees, of course, provide the most fruit and they create lush shade and front yard landscaping flowering edibles!

It takes about 5 years for this tree to produce harvestable batches of fruit, but once it starts it will give you more fruit than you can handle. Your friends are going to love you!! In the meantime, you'll still enjoy the fragrant white blossoms and the glossy evergreen foliage that lights up the landscape and perfumes the air! Add these mid-sized trees anywhere you want shade or privacy with this fantastic broadleaf evergreen edible accent tree!

  • The Sweetest Blood Orange
  • Bright Orange With Red Interior
  • Sweet & Juicy
  • Fragrant White Blossoms for Bees
  • Glossy Evergreen Foliage

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Provide a full sun location with well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Let Citrus in the ground or in containers dry out between waterings for best results.

Although Citrus can grow year-round in warmer regions (zones 9 and 10), they can also thrive in colder areas (zones 4 to 7) as long as the tree is brought indoors before the first frost of winter.

In zone 8, you can cover your tree in the event of a cold snap or unexpected overnight freeze. Citrus will need to be planted in a sheltered spot to avoid the worst of the chill, and not planted in a low area that collects cold air. If a spot like that is unavailable, or you are in a chill-prone climate, then you are safer planting Citrus Trees in a large, deep container with wheels to easily move them to a protected location or indoors when needed.

In cold growing zones, begin slowly acclimating your tree indoors in the fall, or into a protected location, eventually moving your tree inside. Indoor plants need a bright indirect sun window, greenhouse, sunroom, or enclosed patio for the winter. In spring, reverse this process and begin acclimating your tree to again be back out in the full sun all summer. This reduces stress and leaf drop.

Many Citrus connoisseurs say the Tarocco Blood Orange Tree is their favorite of all Oranges! Try it for yourself today by ordering at NatureHills.com before this incredible variety sells out!
