Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Care and Maintenance
Native to Eurasia and mentioned in the Bible, Tamarisk has been a friend to humankind for millennia. This cultivar adapts from frigid Zones 2 to the temperate Zones 8, thriving in lean soils where most shrubs would falter. It’s even hardy enough to die back and return bigger and better come spring in northern climates.
As a woody deciduous shrub (or herbaceous perennial in cold zones), Summer Glow is low maintenance but high impact. It's beloved for its ability to survive in places most plants simply can't.
- Planting Time: Early spring or fall
- Sun Needs: Full sun (minimum 6+ hours)
- Soil Needs: Well-drained soils; thrives in poor, alkaline, sandy, or salty soils; does not require rich soil
- Moisture Needs: Moderate to low once established; drought tolerant. Use the Finger Test to water new plants regularly in their first year
- Mulch/Arborist Mulch: Apply a 3–4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch around the base to retain moisture and protect roots
- Fertilization Needs: Rarely needed; may benefit from compost in extremely poor soil
- Pruning Info: Blooms on new wood. Prune hard in late winter or very early spring to the ground if needed. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage tidiness
- Renewal Pruning: Every 3-5 years, use root pruning with a sharp spade to invigorate the shrub and control spread
- Special Needs/Perks/Growing Tips:
- Extremely cold-hardy (down to Zone 2)
- Heat and salt tolerant
- Handles clay, compacted, and poor soils
- Deer and rabbit resistant
