Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Few perennials rival the beauty, performance, and durability of the Sunset Cutie Gaillardia (Gaillardia x graniflora 'Sunset Cutie')! These remarkable flowers are reminiscent of the various shades of reds and yellows that adorn a glorious summer sunset and are called Blanket Flowers after the boldly patterned blankets of First Nations people. These are some tough perennials, with native wildflower varieties found throughout the hottest, driest, and sunniest parts of North America!

Each bloom features adorable, daisy-like flat blossoms of blazing red surrounded by sunny yellow and accented with a deep red center. Held aloft on slender but sturdy stems, these are the perfect pollen-rich and nectar-laden blooms for pollinators of all kinds! The bright flowers begin in late spring and continue until fall, their prolific bloom encouraged even further with occasional deadheading.

Sunset Cutie's alluring colors are highlighted by a space-saving compact, mounded cluster of green leaves, and sports a neat and tidy, yet vigorous growth habit! Featuring a very long-blooming and prolifically reblooming nature, Sunset Cutie Blanket Flowe is a hardy perennial plant that is able to withstand many conditions. Heat and cold-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 - 9, these are perfect fire-wise landscaping, xeric gardening, as well as deer and rabbit-resistant herbaceous perennials!

Planting and Application:

A colorful native perennial like Blanket Flowers draws so many butterflies and honeybees to your landscape! They'll love the nectar and pollen-filled landing pads you have provided for them! Best of all, any garden becomes a butterfly garden all summer and fall - for months of blooms lasting the entire season! Include Gaillardia in cut flower borders and Cottage gardens, or Rock gardens along with Coreopsis, Coneflowers, and Guara, and of course, other Blanket Flowers, to feed all the bees!

These small-footprint perennials are quite happy in large planters or terra cotta pots around your patios, balconies, or front porch container gardens! If you are looking for reliable summer color in hot, dry sunny borders, you'll get more bang for your buck with this one! Small and compact enough to use as sunny edging and front-of-the-border color all season long!

Cutie is perfect for Firescaping and Xeriscaping, so don't be afraid to use en masse on any hot, dry site, or sandy and sunny slope for erosion control and filling that area with color. Gaillardia are also perfect accents and that tricky 'hell strip' between the sidewalk and street, or as edging along pathways and driveways!

  • Vibrant Red Centers & Toothy Yellow Edged Petals
  • Vital Nectar & Pollen Resources for Pollinators
  • Fast-Growing Compact Green Mounds
  • Great Cut Flowers, Reblooming & Extended Bloom Season
  • Xeric & Firescaping
  • Containers, Edging, En Masse, Space-Saving Beds & Borders

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Gaillardia grows vigorously to a 12-inch tall and wide herbaceous perennial mound. Thriving in average to low fertility and almost any type of well-drained soil. Doing their very best in full sun only. Tolerant to dry soils and drought once established, Blanket Flower does not do well in heavy clay soils. Gaillardia self-seeds, so deadhead after the blooms fade is recommended, and to encourage new blooms in profusion! Prune back in late fall once the foliage begins to yellow.

  • Thrives in the Sun
  • Low to Average Soil Moisture Once Established
  • Well-Drained Average Fertility Soil
  • Deadhead to Prevent Reseed & Encourage More Blooms
  • Prune Back Late Fall
  • Easy-Care, Adaptable, Drought-Tolerant, Deer & Rabbit Resistant

Gaillardias are popular for a reason and Sunset Cutie is no exception. If you'd like a fast-growing perennial for your garden that provides an abundance of long-lasting flowers without the need for special care, then look no further.
