Growing Zones 5-9
It is quite obvious that the Sunsation Magnolia Tree (Magnolia x 'Sunsation') got its name from its sunrise-hued bright yellow petals that are striped with pink! When its beautiful blossoms open up, it exposes its purple eye from which the pink stripes spill.
The Tulip-shaped upright blossoms! But that's not the most distinctive trait that this ornamental tree possesses! Pollinators flock to these scented blossoms and you will love stealing a few to float in a bubble bowl, or snip entire stems for a tall vase!
But that's not the most distinctive trait that this tree! Sunsation Magnolia is a fantastic columnar tree that is sure to easily fit into the smallest properties and narrowest side yards! How cool is that!
The flowers appear before the leaves, giving them the spotlight all spring before the huge, dark green foliage follows in the summer. Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 5 to 9, Sunsation grows into a sturdy and columnar 20 - 25 feet in height but spreads into a slim 6 - 8 feet in width.
Landscape Application:
But don't let this dramatic tree fool you! The Sunsation Magnolia is a rather small accent tree. It would be the perfect centerpiece for any garden! A tall yet slim specimen for front yard landscaping, as a corner-softening accent for your home, and a slender street tree!
Go big with a loosely spaced row along your driveway or along the front of your yard to separate your property from the sidewalk or street. In the backyard where more privacy or screening is desired, keep the lower limbs intact and space your Sunsation 4-5 feet apart along your property line, or as living walls to create outdoor garden rooms!
How pretty would it be with a row of Sunsation Magnolia's around your pool sunbathing areas, or around seating areas where you can enjoy the scent of the blooms in the spring?
Not only is this tree appealing to you and your neighbors, but the pollinators love it too! This tree will be buzzing with busy bees and singing with songbirds appearing in the sheltering branches all season long! Fall also brings seedpods that birds love to feast on!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Plant your Magnolia in a sunny, well-drained site that is rich in organic matter and regular moisture access. This Magnolia tree is rather low-maintenance but does not like winter storms and icy winds, choose a protected location to plant your tree. Applying a thick layer of mulch at the root of the tree is key to optimal growth and insulates the roots. This Magnolia should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing the current season's blossoms.
