If you don't have very much space to work with—or you are trying to squeeze in another fruiting tree into your edible landscape—you'll appreciate the beautiful, tasty Sugar Pie Columnar Nectarine (Prunus persica Sugar Pie'). This useful fruiting tree stays extremely narrow, and sets the most delicious, saucer-shaped fruit!

Modern fruit growers can easily add this home garden variety almost anywhere. You'll relish the crisp snap of the colorful skin; the smooth texture and rich taste of these pretty Sugar Pie Nectarines. Yum!

Nothing is as good grabbing a fruit snack that is still warm from your own tree. Give yourself, your family and friends a flavor experience they'll never forget.

With Sugar Pie's extended harvest time, you'll be able to enjoy the fruit over a long time, too. It eats well from firm-ripe until soft-ripe. Sugar Pie Nectarine has a perfect acid-sugar balance in every bite.

Donut-shaped peaches and nectarines are nothing new. They are a natural result of crossing one peach or nectarine variety with another. The likelihood of an occasional flat selection is common.

Donut-shaped fruit can be traced back in records to 200 BC, but were not considered commercially viable until the late 20th century.

Now, everyone knows how great saucer-shape is. Just think about it. Flat fruit makes them easy to grab hold and eat, doesn't it? And they taste so good!

This is a self-fruitful variety, but you'll definitely see a bigger crop with a partner tree. Choose another peach or nectarine variety, or buy 2 Sugar Pie Columnar Nectarine trees.

White-fleshed peaches and nectarines have a well-deserved reputation as being some of the best-tasting fruit. Even picky eaters love the sweetness of the low acidity. With Sugar Pie Nectarine, you'll get a perfect blend of acid and sugar and an absolutely wonderful piece of fresh fruit.

And don't forget, Sugar Pie also presents you with the most beautiful pink flowers in springtime. You'll adore these narrow, pretty trees all season long.

Order today, or risk missing out. Sugar Pie will be a very popular variety!

How to Use Sugar Pie Columnar Nectarine Tree

Use this mid-season ripening variety anywhere you might use a peach. Sugar Pie Nectarines make fabulous preserves and pies. Try them in fruit salads. And don't forget to infuse your water by simply adding a few slices to your pitcher or glass.

However, nothing tops eating this unique, donut-shaped fruit fresh right off the tree!

The narrow columnar habit of the tree makes it perfect for the back-yard grower. Plant the Sugar Pie along with other columnar varieties like the Blushing Pearl Peach, the Sweet Sensation Peach or the Flavor Gold Nectarine.

Then you can enjoy all these varieties over a 4-month period in as little as 28 feet of space!

Create a wonderful hedgerow with Nature Hills' fabulous Columnar Fruit trees spaced 5 to 7 feet apart on center. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next. Allow the canopies to grow together to create a great visual background for your yard.

Let them grow as tall as you'd like to block out unwanted views. Or, keep them small and compact with simple summer pruning to maintain any height you'd like.

The narrow spread of the trees keeps the overall size under control with little extra effort. You'll have plenty of fruit for your family to enjoy. Pair Sugar Pie with additional peach or nectarine varieties!

With their upright, sentry-like growth habit, you should consider flanking either side of your sunny entryway with a pair of Sugar Pies. Create a sensation in your neighborhood, and bump up the impact of your curb appeal!

In spring, the lavish pink blooms will have neighbors do a double take. All summer long, you'll enjoy the formal columnar shape.

Highly ornamental, dark red saucer-shaped fruit really stands out as they hang on your trees, waiting for harvest in mid-season. Sugar Pie Nectarine fruit is early to color up. Enjoy the showy display of bright nectarines.

#ProPlantTips for Care

Sugar Pie Columnar Nectarine requires a full sun location to thrive. Ensure the trees receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight. The morning sun is preferred, as this has that all-important drying power to keep the leaves healthy.

They need well-drained soil, as well. If you see puddles on your ground that remain long after a rainfall, you'll want to improve drainage. It's easy, simply plant in a raised bed or heap up a mound of soil at least 12 to 18 inches high and 3 feet wide. You'll plant in that mound.

Give a 3 inch layer of mulch spread to 3 feet outside of the canopy. This will help to cut down on evaporation and to keep the roots cool in the hot summer.

Provide a moderate amount of water on a regular basis. Prune to control height in the summer, and to correct the shape in late winter.
