The Flaming Mound Spirea (Spiraea japonica 'Flaming Mound') is a deciduous shrub with ornamental features. It would look particularly stunning planted en masse, in a rock garden or perhaps even as a single planting in your perennial bed amid less-colorful plants. Flaming Mound has a lot to offer for such a diminutive shrub. Just as its name implies, it will appear as a flaming mound of brilliant color in your landscape. You'll adore the colorful foliage this remarkable, little shrub provides!
Each tiny leaf begins life with a blazing red shade, transitioning to yellow and returning again to red for autumn. The contrast of the summer foliage with the long-lasting flowers is exquisite. Large, 4-inch round corymbs of deep pink flowers adorn Flaming Mound from late spring and into summer, blanketing it in color and texture.
Japanese Spirea is known for its dwarf habit and has a mounding form. Flaming Mound is adaptive to a variety of conditions and is quite hardy overall. It's considered a fast-growing shrub so you won't have to wait long to see results, and the flowers are even useful for craft projects or just used as cut flowers in a floral display on your kitchen table.
Planting and Application:
Use Flaming Mound to brighten up your garden beds and borders. Fantastic facer plants and edging to conceal the leggy older evergreens and tidy up older foundation plantings. They look equally great lining a formal walkway or edging a unique woodland garden. Wake up a tired hedge with a row of these eye-popping bushes planted in front of them, or get a rock wall or fence line noticed! Dress up cottage borders and pollinator gardens with vibrant colors that you and your pollinators will take notice of!
The compact and dense, bushy size and shape of these adaptable little shrubs means great things await your porch planters and patio pots! Balcony and rooftop gardeners, container gardeners and anyone with smaller, modern lots can brighten up their landscapes regardless of size availability! Don't worry about established landscapes either, you'll easily find room to include this bright, space-saving accent shrub!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
New and improved Japanese Spiraea love full sun and partial shade, appreciating afternoon shade in the hottest of its favored hardiness zones. Any well-drained, moderately moist location in the landscape suits these just fine! Besides their obvious beauty, they are drought tolerant, and deer and rabbits don't touch them. You can extend the bloom of your Flaming Mound with some simple deadheading, but the lovely foliage will continue to provide interest even after the flowers have faded.
- Full Sun & Partial Shade
