This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Growing Zones 7-9
Have you ever had the amazing experience of standing in the great Redwood forests of Northern California? If you haven't, we certainly hope that you get the chance to do it one day. There are very few experiences that compare to the feeling of being dwarfed by these magnificently huge trees.
They are gorgeous and sturdy and make you really wonder if there is room in your yard at home for one of these beauties. Alas, since they can top out at over 300 feet tall and 30 feet across, they are a smidge too big for most of us!
But, we are excited to now be able to offer you the Soquel Coast Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens 'Soquel'). Its finely textured needles are dark green with bluish or grayish undersides. A pyramidal Evergreen when mature, featuring reddish-brown bark and horizontal branches that point up at the ends.
The bark is lovely and strong, and the classic reddish-brown gives the tree its name. The branches arch slightly upward at the tips in that quintessentially redwood way, too. They are evergreen and will add year-round interest wherever you plant them. They are only happy in USDA growing zones 7-9, growing 75 - 90 feet tall and 20 - 30 feet wide, in a location with adequate moisture access, so please plan accordingly.
Landscape Application:
This very special tree has all of the lovely qualities of the larger Redwood, but in a smaller package better suited for modern homes and commercial landscapes. Only growing two feet or more per year, Soquel will eventually reach its mature height in 45 years. Give it the room it needs, and you will absolutely cherish the opportunity to grow such a high-status, long-lived tree.
A single front lawn specimen planting becomes a prominent landscape feature for all to see, leaving an indelible mark for generations to come. They love moisture so they are perfect trees for well-watered urban lawns!
In large backyards and park settings, Soquel Redwood trees look fantastic in small groups or groves. Quickly becoming your neighborhood's wildlife keystone hotspot, while you will benefit from lush shade and wind protection.
Plant long rows as windbreaks, shelterbelts, and evergreen hedgerows along your property's edge. Ideal in rain gardens where these trees handle more moisture with ease. Soquel looks gorgeous when planted around a pond or brook, reflecting in the water.
- Native to North America
- Smallest Redwood Cultivar
- High-Status Impressive Evergreen
- Keystone Species For Wildlife
- Dark Green Foliage With Blue/Gray Undersides
- Windbreaks, Lawn Specimens, Shelterbelts & Lasting Legacy Trees
#ProPlantTips for Care:
These full-sun trees grow best in well-drained locations. Check with your County Extension Office because this tree grows best in cool areas with consistent temperatures and moist to wet soils along the coast of the Pacific. Prune in late winter to remove structural issues when young and any winter dieback or broken branches.
- Full Sun
- Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate to Moist Soil Locations - Tolerates Occasionally Wet
- Prune Late Winter/Early Spring
- Grows Best Along The Pacific Coast
