Create visual impact the easy way! Add these small flowering shrubs that grow into living, small-scale sculptures in your foreground.
The Japanese native, Slender Deutzia ((Deutzia gracilis) features a marvelously lyrical form. Graceful branches with small, pointed leaves grow outward and upward, eventually arching down towards the ground.
Each bush develops as an individualistic specimen, although they'll work together beautifully as a fine-textured mass planting. You'll never grow tired of these petite shrubs.
Watch in spring! You'll be thrilled by the amount of airy racemes rising above the foliage. They each hold clustered, pinpoint-sized white buds that open to white blossoms.
During the enchanting full bloom, you'll be hard-pressed to see the willow-like, slightly toothed green leaves at all! The shrub resembles a white firecracker caught in mid-explosion.
Butterflies, honey bees and other pollinators adore these showy, bell-shaped flowers. They'll be a near-constant visitor, gathering the nectar. Planting Slender Deutzia is a kind act for these critically important creatures.
Enjoy the long-lasting spring display. It's fine to harvest some of the slender clusters for cut flower arrangements, as there will be plenty left to feed the butterflies.
These are excellent, informal deciduous shrubs that are so easy to grow in well-drained soil. Add them to large containers for amazing springtime interest, and as a lovely "Filler" for the rest of the season.
Once the blooms are done, trim them up to shape. They'll play an important role as a beautiful texture plant in your landscape.
Breezes catch, lift and send the slender branches swaying all season long. You'll welcome this restful sense of motion to give your garden dynamism and energy.
Use this species with the other Deutzia cultivars we offer as a low-maintenance, flowering collection. They are such special plants. Order Slender Deutzia today!
How to Use Slender Deutzia in the Landscape
Place these charming shrubs to help define the boundary between a manicured part of your landscape and a naturalized, rough area. They'll hold their own with verve and a lot of style!
Shape them up each year, or let them do their own thing. They'll also take hard pruning to rejuvenate them every 5 years. These undemanding plants work on your schedule.
Create a special spring feature with a flowering hedge of these low-growing, spreading shrubs. Plant them two feet apart on center. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next.
Curve the line to take advantage of their spunky shape. Add a row of Mock Orange shrubs behind them for an incredible white-flowering spring display.
It's very effective to repeat Slender Deutzia through your shrub border. Use them in your Victory Garden and Backyard Orchards, as well.
Enjoy a bumper crop with help from those enticing white flowers. Pollinators can't resist them!
Add them as a mass planting in low-maintenance areas or hillsides. The cascading form works so well to create a lovely, flowing effect. Add in the kinetic energy from the wind and you have improved the look of your slope tremendously.
#ProPlantTips for Care
Versatile Slender Deutzia can be grown in either full sun, or partial shade. For best flowering, it needs at least 4 hours of direct sunlight a day.
It thrives in most soil types, including clay, but does require that water drains quickly. Plant in well-drained soil, or create raised planting beds or grow in containers.
Apply a medium amount of even water regularly. Mulch over the root system will provide protection, and cut down on surface evaporation. Reapply as needed.
Prune Slender Deutzia to shape directly after flowering, if desired. You can also trim back the spent bloom panicles at that time.
You'll adore the easy-care nature, unique form and terrific spring flowers of Slender Deutzia. Order yours today!
