Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Need a fast-growing, columnar accent that stays green all year round, then it's perhaps easier to explain the few places where you couldn't utilize a Skywalker Boxwood (Buxus sempervirens 'Skywalker') in your garden! After all, these tall, skinny broadleaf evergreen plants are such an elegant problem-solver in today's small space gardens!

They stay so narrow but can grow quite tall in a short amount of time. These are some of the very fastest Boxwoods available on the market! During the spring, your Skywalker columnar Boxwood has fragrant, tiny, yellow flowers that form among the upright branches. You may never see them, but you'll notice their fresh scent and see all the bees seeking them out!

You'll love how fast Skywalker will mature. Even planted as a solo specimen, this plant "makes the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs". In other words, it grows fast. Up to 30 inches a year fast.

The growth is strongly upright, and the overall form looks like a living exclamation point! Growing 15-20 feet in height and only 5-6 feet wide, these can be easily pruned to any size you and your landscape needs!

Planting and Application:

As with other Boxwood, it's easy to keep them manicured and formally trimmed to just the size you like. This variety has larger leaves than others, and the beautiful, rounded leaves stay green all year long. The upright foliage is densely held from top to bottom, so you'll never need a facer plant!

Another great way to use Skywalker is to simply plant them and let them do their thing! Skywalker Boxwood will always look sophisticated, even if you let it grow out into its naturally "fluffy" state.

Tuck one Skywalker into place on the side of your contemporary casual front door. Add another as a flanked pair on either side of the door on Colonial-style homes. Call them your "sentries", and get ready for compliments! Use more than one to create hard-working living walls to create a special dining room or blissfully private getaway.

Squeeze Skywalker Boxwood into the tightest side yard! Soften the awkward angle of the garage. Hide the neighbor's second-story window, or conceal your workshed with a hedge. Use five of them spaced wide apart in a curved lawn planting. Turn one into a pom-pom topiary for a really rewarding garden feature!

Of course, planting several Skywalker shrubs together will make a fantastic hedge. This is a really nice option if your preferred planting area runs along full sun and partly shaded areas. Create a solid screen quickly by planting two and a half feet apart on center. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next. Increase the spacing for a looser hedge.

You can even plant them in the ground, or in large exterior containers. Use a row of Skywalkers in matching containers along the length of your patio for easy, decorator-style year after year.

  • Tall & Narrow Broadleaf Evergreen
  • Fast-Growing Columnar Form
  • Tiny Flowers For Pollinators
  • Adaptable & Versatile - Sheared Or Natural
  • Space-Saving Hedges, Privacy, Specimens, Vertical Elements & Containers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Skywalker Boxwood needs at least four hours of sunlight a day for best performance. It would also love full sun all day long throughout USDA growing zones 6 to 9! Please give it well-drained soil. This variety is resistant to root rot, but why take chances? If you need to improve your drainage, add a mound of soil 18 inches high by three feet wide. Plant in that mound.

You'll always want to protect your investment with a regular schedule of supplemental watering. Please pay close attention to water when your plants are young. Check the soil near your plants to see if it's moist, or getting dry. Saturate the soil as needed. Apply a three-inch layer of mulch over the root system to keep it cool and moist. Pull the mulch back several inches from around the stems and leave a gap of several inches.

In late fall, give these broadleaved evergreens a nice, long drink before the winter sets in, as they need this moisture in their leaves to protect them against the drying winter winds. Prune in late spring to early summer, after the new flush of growth. Avoid pruning as the winter approaches to avoid encouraging new growth late in the season.

In early spring, feed Skywalker Boxwood an organic, slow-release fertilizer. Follow the label directions.

  • Full Sun to Partial Shade
  • Moderate Moisture Needs
  • Well-Drained Soil
  • Prune After The First Flush of Growth
  • Deer & Rabbit Resistant & Highly Adaptable

You'll always love the modern twist of this classic choice. These shrubs are red-hot, and our current crop will sell out very quickly. You'll definitely appreciate how versatile these hard-working formal evergreens will be in your landscape. Order several from Nature Hills, as you are bound to find additional places to plant them!
