Honeylocusts are admired for their serious durability and fast growth. They can handle heat, cold, drought, heavy rain urban conditions, and compacted soils. Plant this deciduous tree in full sun and give them moderate water and well-drained soils while they are establishing. Then once settled, their roots can be quite xeric/drought-tolerant.

Top the soil with a 3-4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch - especially when planted in the lawn. Create a buffer zone extending 3-4 feet from the trunk to protect the bark from damage. Shape young trees in late winter with strategic pruning cuts to open the canopy and balance the branch structure.
