Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

100 days of pink! Everything about the amazing Sioux Crape Myrtle tree (Lagerstroemia indica x faueri 'Sioux') is colorful - From the dark green foliage, the clear pink flower clusters, even the bark! This beautiful small tree will be a beacon in your landscape for you every day of the year!

The show starts in the spring with a flush of pretty green leaves. This is quickly followed by stunning pink flowers that bloom continuously through the hottest part of summer without missing a beat. You'll be rewarded with over 100 days of blooms during the season. Those ruffled blooms keep coming all the way through the fall, too.

The flowers look like crepe paper, so many gardeners refer to these trees as "Crepe Myrtles". Either way, the pink blooms are absolutely knockout gorgeous! As the flowers fade, the leaves turn brilliant shades of red and purple. Being a Crape Myrtle, you can expect a long-lived shrub or tree that will consistently give you beautiful deep green leaves and clouds of pollinator-friendly flowers every year with no fuss.

Even after the leaves drop, you'll have visual interest through winter. The sloughing bark of the Sioux Crape Myrtle peels from dark brown to beige to give the trunk a marbled look. You'll love the look of this variety all year long. Thrifty gardeners in hardiness Zones 6 to 9 will appreciate this long-lasting display!

Planting and Application:

Lagerstroemia Sioux Crape Myrtle is a perfect size for any garden! They don't get too big or stay too small and fit under utility lines with no problem! Though we recommend that you study the Plant Highlights to see the mature height and spread and plan ahead to provide your Sioux with enough room to reach its full potential.

To create the look of a single-trunk tree, simply trim off the lower branches all the way back to the main trunk. You can remove branches from the main trunk starting from ground level and working up to a height of 3 - 5 feet to create a lovely tree-form canopy.

Or, if you prefer a shrubby screen, simply leave the lower branches on the plant! You'll be thrilled with the flowering screen this gives you! Dense branching provides privacy and bird-friendly screening while hiding nosy neighbors and eyesores.

A gorgeous specimen and landscape accent, the Sioux will grace your front or backyard! Highlight it on a raised berm or as a focal point among your landscape borders and sun gardens!

  • Striking Pink Colored Flowers!
  • Long-Lasting Summer Blooms For Pollinators
  • Large Shrub or Small Tree With Pruning!
  • Pollinator & Hummingbird-Friendly
  • Specimens & Garden Accents, Hedges & Screening

#ProPlantTips for Care:

This is an exceptionally hardy and easy-to-grow Sioux Pink Crape Myrtle. It blooms farther north than many other Crape Myrtles. (It will even thrive under a blanket of ice and snow)! It is also heat-tolerant and disease and drought-resistant. It is tolerant of almost any soil type and flourishes where other flowering shrubs won't.

Plant in full sun to get the best performance and powdery mildew resistance. While somewhat drought tolerant, it's far better to give them supplemental water regularly during extended periods of dry weather without rainfall. Your Crape will also appreciate a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch or bark chips to hold in moisture and insulate the roots.

Sioux Crape Myrtle will bloom on this year's wood. If you need to remove crossing branches, suckers, or branches growing inward, simply trim the branches in late fall or early winter before the flower buds set. However, if you want to control the size of the tree, use loppers to prune the top branches back to a side branch in late winter. Study our #ProPlantTips to learn more about avoiding "Crape Murder". If you want to enjoy a repeat bloom in late summer, simply clip the spent flowers off after they fade.

  • Full Sun
  • Well-Drained Enriched Soil

  • Blooms on New Growth - Prune in Spring

Single-Stem, Multi-Stem, Shrub-Form, Oh My!

Before you buy, make sure you know what you're getting! Single-stem, multi-stem and shrub-forms are different so read a bit about which we're currently offering below.

Single Stem:

These are plants that have one stem coming from the ground. Plants can also be considered single-stem when lower branches are removed to raise the height of the branching. Sometimes, you will hear a single stem referred to as Tree Form.

Multi Stem:

These are plants with 2 or more stems planted together in the ground in close proximity to form a clump. There are times multi-stems are formed by a tree that branches at the soil line with more than one main stem.

Shrub Form:

These are bushy plants with many stems and branchings close to the ground. They are referred to as shrubs or bushes and are often shorter than their tree forms.
