Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Tough landscapes and tricky climates need a tree that is ready to roll with the punches! The Sensation Boxelder Maple Tree (Acer negundo 'Sensation') is a pretty tree that can handle tough environments without skipping a beat! A member of the Maple family, this is a native selection so you know it will do beautifully!
Maple trees are easy to grow, are used all over North America, and are known for the color of the fall leaves. The Sensation Boxelder is no exception!
Pretty lobed leaves on long petioles are divided into arrangements of three and almost (but not quite) resemble Poison Ivy but without the itchy oils! The leaves come out a soft copper-red in the spring and quickly change to a refreshing green with just a hint of copper undertones for the summer! Accented by tiny flowers the bees seek out but this sensational Box Elder won't produce any messy seeds! This keeps pesky Box Elder bugs from showing up for a meal as well!
In the fall it unleashes a brilliant display of rich red leaves that are a classic fall garden look! The lush foliage casts cooling shade, filling out the fast-growing 30 - 35 foot tall canopy that spreads 20 - 25 feet wide.
Landscape Application:
Sensation is a great landscape tree that casts a nice shade over your garden beds, and seating areas while reducing your cooling bill when planted off a western-facing side of your home!
Several lining a long drive are picture-perfect in any season! Keep the lower limbs growing near the ground to create a screening hedge, groupings bring in wildlife, and a single tree shades a backyard reading chair beautifully!
It's nicely sized for a garden bed or border, filling in privacy and windbreak hedges But where this tree really shines is in areas that have challenging climates!
- Lacy Lobed Foliage With Bronzy Tones
- Fast-Growing Rounded Canopy
- Rich Red Fall Color
- Attracts Pollinators But No Messy Seeds
- Great For Smaller Spaces
- Gorgeous Shade, Street, Lawn Specimen & Hedge Tree
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Super easy to care for and thrives in sun or part shade. Plant your Boxelder in a well-drained site with regular moisture their first year, but watch them become drought tolerant as they become established. Help the roots along with a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around their base. Prune if needed when dormant in the late winter. This native cultivar is cold-hardy to zone 4 (-40 degrees and more!) and it is water-wise too. Once it is established it is relatively drought tolerant.
- Full Sun or Partial Shade
- Well-Drained Soil of Any Kind
- Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
- Prune When Dormant
- Easy Care, Native Adaptability & Hardy Deciduous Tree
