Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Amazing depth of color! The Purple Emperor Sedum (Sedum 'Purple Emperor') also known as Stonecrop, has dramatic dark purple, almost black leaves with compact, showy purple stems! In the summer, they are topped with heads of pinkish-purple flowers. This charming and colorful plant is wonderful in any landscape.
Purple Emperor is loaded with dark star-shaped blossoms that are nectar-rich resources for bees and butterflies! The stout stems allow you to create gorgeous cut bouquets with its flat-topped flower heads! The pinkish purple flowers add color when it is most needed in the fall! If left alone, this great Sedum plant will add winter interest and provide food for birds.
This amazing Sedum was awarded the Outstanding Perennial Plant Award from the International Hardy Plant Union in 2002! This Sedum is a reliable, hardy, and low-maintenance perennial throughout USDA hardiness zones 3 to 9 and withstands heat, chill, drought, pests, and even deer seldom bother with them!
Planting and Application:
Despite its regal name, Purple Emperor is fantastically hardy and won't need any pampering! It is a wonderful choice for sun-drenched beds and borders, both as edging and dramatic groundcover or filler! These dark perennials add contrast and depth to the Cottage garden, mixed Perennial border, and Rock Gardens while adding elegance and class to formal and informal plantings alike!
For a wonderful fall display, plant with Asters or Coneflowers to highlight the late-season garden and feed pollinators looking for a treat before migrating.
No yard? No problem! Any sunny container garden is fitting for Purple Emberor! Stonecrop can be dramatic in planters as fillers and spillers. Place around a pool seating area, patio or potted up to add height to the garden!
Fill a wide, open area with a mass planting to pretty up large drifts of bare ground, slow erosion on slopes, and create a spectacle out of a hard-to-mow hillside! Sedum thrives in drier soils, is a welcome addition to the rugged conditions of the average sun garden, thrives in the harsh hell strip, and is recommended for use around the fire-wise landscape!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Purple Emperor needs to be planted in full sun in well-drained soil. It will tolerate most soil types and is low-maintenance and drought-resistant once established. One thing Stonecrop despises is soggy soil and shade. During the first season, give it a medium amount of water on a regular basis. After the fleshy roots are well-established in your soil, you can ease off on the supplemental water. We always recommend that you protect your investment with water in a prolonged drought. But Sedum is a water-wise perennial, but do appreciate a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch around the root zone to keep more moisture consistency in the soil.
For a clean-looking appearance, remove the old foliage before new growth begins in the early spring. Divide Stonecrop and enjoy more plants for your own garden or share with friends!
- Best Color & Flowering in Full Sun
- Thrives in Almost Any Well-Drained Soil - Poor Soil Tolerant
- Regular Moisture At First - Drought Tolerant Once Established
- Prune Down Early Spring
- Cold Hardy & Heat-Resistant - Deer Don't Prefer This Plant
Deep, dark, and regal, the Purple Emperor Sedum is here to add its illustrious beauty to your landscape! Order quality perennials and flowering ornamentals at Nature Hills today!

Will Sedum come back every year?
Sedum are reliable perennials so long as they have well-drained soil year-round.
