Incredibly easy, drought-resistant beauty, the Autumn Fire Sedum (Sedum spectabile 'Autumn Fire') is a wonder plant for your garden! Once blooming, the color is non-stop! Bold clusters of closely packed, rosy pink flowers show up in late summer, gracefully age to a salmon-pink bronze, and finish with a deep copper-red in fall!

Before it gets blooming, however, the rounded dense mounds of waxy blue-green, succulent foliage form and look lovely in the garden. Growing up to 2 feet in height when in bloom, and spreading about the same. These resilient ornamental flowering perennials are quite hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 9! Handling both heat and chill, seldom bothered by deer and rabbits, and thriving in sun and drought with ease!

Autumn Fire Sedum is an easy-to-grow plant that not only tolerates drought but even seems to thrive in it! This is a great improvement over the garden staple, Autumn Joy Sedum. It is a classic upright Sedum with large flower heads that are held up, nice and flat. Butterflies and bumblebees love the Autumn Fire Sedum.

The strong blue-green stems hold up much longer into the fall than Autumn Joy, too! The waxy blue-green succulent-like stems highlight the flowers. This Sedum variety is also known as Stonecrop and Autumn Stonecrop because they are very showy in late fall when the flowers are faded.

Planting and Application:

Autumn Fire Sedum are useful in Cottage and Perennial borders and as edging along garden pathways and walkways. The flowers and their strong stems do very well in floral arrangements so include them in the cutting garden as well! Pollinator gardens and Xeric locations like Rock Garden, rock walls, and Crevice Gardens, or like the hell strip along the road.

Mix these in with Daylilies, Phlox, and Sages for a great show all summer into fall. Use some ornamental grasses as a backdrop and pair them with a Rudbeckia or Sunflower, and you have yourself quite the fall garden!

For a seasonal display, simply pop the growing container directly into your ornamental pots. This makes an easy-peasy change out from your summer look right into autumn-themed containers and front porch décor! Or grow Autumn Fire in a large planter as filler all summer then as the thriller for the autumn! The dried flower stems are fantastic in dried arrangements or for use in your fall and winter pots or décor!

  • Densely-Packed Rosy Pink Flower Clusters Age to Salmon/Bronze
  • Compact Rounded Domes of Blue-Green Foliage
  • Late Season Flowers
  • Rosy Russet/Bronzed Fall Color
  • Butterflies & Bees Love Them!
  • Edging, Rock Gardens, Specimens, Garden & Container Thrillers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Easy to grow in full sun to part shade, but for the best color, the most flowers, and the strongest most compact growth - you need to plant your Autumn Fire in at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Sedum needs to be planted in a well-drained location for them to do their best. This perennial will tolerate most soil types, even thriving in poor soils, and is very drought-resistant once established. Add a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch around the root zone to keep more moisture consistency in the soil. It's easy to do a quick cleanup of this low-maintenance plant in the early spring - just cut the dried stems down to the ground.

  • Sun-Loving Hardy Succulent
  • Thrives in Almost Any Well-Drained Soil - Poor Soil Tolerant
  • Regular Moisture At First - Drought Tolerant Once Established
  • Prune Down Early Spring
  • Low-Maintenance & Easy to Grow

Set your garden ablaze this autumn with the Autumn Fire Sedum from Nature Hills today! Find this and many more multi-purpose ornamental flowering plants on our site and enjoy the convenience of having them shipped safely to your doorstep!
