Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

The Scarlet Halo Peach Tree (Prunus persica 'Scarlet Halo') is noted for its splendid flavor and scarlet-colored flesh. Bred for its fine, very sweet flavor and thicker size, Scarlet Halos are a late-ripening, self-fruitful variety. Also known as donut, bagel or flat peaches, these are truly unique specimens, and are amazingly ornamental, dual-purpose trees!
With strong branching, and retaining an upright form, spring bursts into action with a dazzling, display of pink-tinted blossoms. The fragrant flowers bloom before the tree's leaves appear, to produce a lovely display of floral brilliance! Pollinators and a few early arriving hummingbirds arrive at the scene as well for the bounty of nectar!
Scarlett Halo fruit exhibits a more compressed appearance, for which they are named. It has a semi-clingstone pit in the sunken center shaped like a doughnut. The unique shape, combined with the bright scarlet hue of the skin and flesh, adds to the charm of this unique peach variety! Ripening in early August, they are as delightfully sweet and juicy as any peach you've ever tasted! Because of this shape, you can easily eat all around the pit.
Planting and Application:
Eat them fresh or dehydrated (dried). Use them in fabulous preserves, and don't forget the grill! Pop-out the pit, slice them in half and place them on the grill for a short time. The heat really brings out the outstanding flavors of this special fruit! Also fantastic in baked goods, pies and pastries as well as the famous Peach cobbler.
The long, slightly wavy foliage is verdant green and provides amazing shade and the wonderful upright mature form adds so much delightful presence to the landscape! A fantastic specimen plant and focal point, these can be trained to work in any sized property or tucked into any home orchard, big or small! Shade garden beds and patios, or use to anchor buildings and large plantings. Or just set one out in the backyard as a lovely edible accent tree, retaining its ornamental appeal throughout the entire year!

Hardy in USDA growing zones 6-9, Scarlet Halo requires at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day for the best health and juiciest fruit. While not particular on soil type, any well-drained soil is best. Fruit trees require good drainage to thrive.
Good air circulation is important as well. Prune to keep the center of the tree open to both air and sunlight. It is easy to maintain this tree much smaller if needed for a small home orchard, small yard, or to harvest easily. Maintaining a smaller tree also allows you to cover in bird netting so your local feathered friends won't carry away all of your harvest.

Gorgeous Flat Peach a Treat for Eyes and Mouth
For thousands of years, the flat peach has been revered in the Chinese culture. Back as far as the Han Dynasty (203 BCE) the flat white peach was known as the Pan Tao peach, which means 'coiled peach'. These were also referred to as the Peach of Immortality.
It was said that the fruit ripened every 3000 years at which time an event called the Baxian - or 'Eight immortals' - would occur. Pan Tao peaches were sent from the Zhejiang province to the Imperial Palace in Beijing each year in celebration of this desired event, until the early 1900's.
The Scarlet Halo is the latest in this unique category of fruit. Known by number of different descriptive names, including: doughnut peach, Donut peach®, Saucer peach, UFO peach, hat peach and bagel peach; these flat peaches are frequently found in open pollinated seedlings, in the wild, and as result of select hybrid crosses. Most of these seedlings were discarded as demand in the United States never achieved the same popularity as the round white and yellow peach selections.
In 1862, the "Peento Peach", a misspelling of the original Chinese name, arrived in the United States from China. During this time many new varieties of peaches were being introduced from every part of the United States, along with many varieties arriving into the United States for testing. The Peento Peach would sit in collections, sparking little interest for another 120 years.
In the 1990's, Rutgers University and Stark Brothers Nursery introduced the Stark Saturn Peach. The demand for the flat style peach began to grow. A prominent produce marketing company, Frieda's Specialty Produce, trademarked the name Donut Peach® in the late 1990's and became the exclusive representative of the flat peach for well over a decade.
Today, the flat peach has become a popular commercial and home garden variety. The Scarlet Halo was introduced by the Burchell Nursery's hybridist John Slaughter in 2010. It's a tremendous improvement over the original flat peaches. In the last 20 years, many new selections have been introduced but the Scarlet Halo is not just another white or yellow fleshed Flat Peach.
Selected for its fine flavor along with its thicker size, Scarlet Halo also features unique deep dark red flesh. A late ripening, self-fruitful selection, the Scarlet Halo with its unique red flesh is the next generation of this centuries old fruit type. Enjoy!
