The Scarlet Halo Peach Tree (Prunus persica 'Scarlet Halo') is noted for its splendid flavor and scarlet-colored flesh. Bred for its fine, very sweet flavor and thicker size, Scarlet Halos are a late-ripening, self-fruitful variety. Also known as donut, bagel or flat peaches, these are truly unique specimens, and are amazingly ornamental, dual-purpose trees!

With strong branching, and retaining an upright form, spring bursts into action with a dazzling, display of pink-tinted blossoms. The fragrant flowers bloom before the tree's leaves appear, to produce a lovely display of floral brilliance! Pollinators and a few early arriving hummingbirds arrive at the scene as well for the bounty of nectar!

Scarlett Halo fruit exhibits a more compressed appearance, for which they are named. It has a semi-clingstone pit in the sunken center shaped like a doughnut. The unique shape, combined with the bright scarlet hue of the skin and flesh, adds to the charm of this unique peach variety! Ripening in early August, they are as delightfully sweet and juicy as any peach you've ever tasted! Because of this shape, you can easily eat all around the pit.

Planting and Application:

Eat them fresh or dehydrated (dried). Use them in fabulous preserves, and don't forget the grill! Pop-out the pit, slice them in half and place them on the grill for a short time. The heat really brings out the outstanding flavors of this special fruit! Also fantastic in baked goods, pies and pastries as well as the famous Peach cobbler.

The long, slightly wavy foliage is verdant green and provides amazing shade and the wonderful upright mature form adds so much delightful presence to the landscape! A fantastic specimen plant and focal point, these can be trained to work in any sized property or tucked into any home orchard, big or small! Shade garden beds and patios, or use to anchor buildings and large plantings. Or just set one out in the backyard as a lovely edible accent tree, retaining its ornamental appeal throughout the entire year!

Pruned smaller, these trees fit into any garden orchard or home landscape for privacy, juicy fruit and their ornamental appeal. Plant them in a hedgerow for screening and enjoy a harvest of flat fruit for the entire summer while screening out an unwanted view.

Scarlet Halo is self-fruitful but will produce a larger yield with a pollinating partner close by. Plant with another Scarlet Halo, or other donut-style peach variety. No room? Try this high-density planting trick!

  • Fuzzy Skinned Rosy Blush over a Yellow Background
  • Succulent Sweet Jewel-Red Flesh
  • Semi-Freestone Novelty Shaped Doughnut Peach
  • Fresh Eating, Preserves, Pies & Much More
  • Gorgeous Pink Spring Blossoms

#ProPlantTips For Care

Hardy in USDA growing zones 6-9, Scarlet Halo requires at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day for the best health and juiciest fruit. While not particular on soil type, any well-drained soil is best. Fruit trees require good drainage to thrive.

Good air circulation is important as well. Prune to keep the center of the tree open to both air and sunlight. It is easy to maintain this tree much smaller if needed for a small home orchard, small yard, or to harvest easily. Maintaining a smaller tree also allows you to cover in bird netting so your local feathered friends won't carry away all of your harvest.

In late winter, prune to keep an open canopy for sunlight and airflow to reach the interior of the tree. Read more Pruning tips and tricks, as well as Peach Tree Care in our Garden Blog!

How long does it take for Scarlet Halo Peach Trees to bear fruit?

How Fast Do Scarlet Halo Peach Trees Grow?

Be sure to plant your peach in a sunny and well-drained location. Once your Scarlet Halo (Prunus persica 'Scarlet Halo') has been established (after the first year), it can typically add 12-18 inches of new growth in a growing season. If your plants are adding less than that in a season, it may be worth your while to check the fertility level.

Where do Scarlet Halo Peach Trees Grow Best?

Peach trees grow best in well-drained, fertile soil in at least 6 hours of full sun per day or more.

Do You Need 2 Peach Trees to Produce Fruit?

All peach trees are self-fertile, however planting more than one peach tree that blooms at about the same time, boosts yields on both trees and extends your harvest time!

Harvest Times for Scarlet Halo Peach Trees

Scarlet Halos are typically ready to harvest in August to September. Keep in mind exact harvest times are subject to change depending on the hardiness zones they’re being grown in.

Early-Season? Mid-Season? Late-Season? The terminology can be confusing for new peach tree growers. Weather, climate and your tree determine when it’s ripe.

When Should Scarlet Halo Peach Tree be Planted?

Bareroot peach trees can be planted in spring when they are available in your area. Container-grown peach trees can be very successfully transplanted all throughout the growing season. Check for first and last frost dates for your area with your local County Extension Office.

  • Plant bareroot peach trees in the early spring.
  • Plant container-grown trees anytime the ground is not frozen by digging a hole as deep as the soil line and twice as wide.
