The Satomi Dogwood (Cornus kousa 'Satomi') is an outstanding ornamental for spring color and fall interest. This is a great choice for your yard as the spring blooms come a bit later in the season. When your other spring-blooming plants are beginning to fade, your Satomi Japanese Dogwood will just be getting started!

This extension of your yard's spring glory will begin with clusters of four-petaled, delicate pink flower-like bracts that stand out amid the landscape plantings. These flowers are nectar-rich beacons for beneficial pollinators!

As the blooms fade, the pointed, ovate leaves become prominent giving your Dogwood a lush green appearance for the summer months. The multi-stemmed growth is horizontally-inclined, creating a lovely symmetry and low canopy.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Satomi can grow in full sun and loves a rich organic, acidic soil that drains well is best, but tolerates just about any soil condition. They love having their root systems covered with a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch to keep the root system evenly moist and cooler. They do not like the sun to bake the roots beneath. Additional moisture weekly or as needed will also keep your plant happy. Flowering Japanese Dogwood Trees shows better cold hardiness and for sure should be used in areas where Dogwood Anthracnose is a problem as this beauty has no serious disease problems.

Prune them to shape when dormant, and remove water growth or suckers after flowering. Decide what you want to keep first, then remove crossed branches and branches heading into the interior of the canopy to open it up for sunlight penetration and air circulation.
