Easy to grow, these tough herbaceous perennials are highly drought tolerant once established. Plant in the full sun, the soft purple flowers are defiant in the sun, humidity, and heat. Plant in any well-drained soil, growing equally well in moderately fertile soils and with average moisture found in the home garden setting, Sage will only do poorly in soggy, wet ground. Apply a three-inch thick layer over the root system to support your plants.

Deadhead to keep the flowers returning throughout the entire growing season, and prune these perennials back in winter to give your plant a clean, finished look if you are in the warmer growing zones where Sages can be evergreen. Divide your plants every 3-5 years to maintain their growing vigor. Otherwise, there's little else in the way of maintenance Sages require.
