Elevate the experience of your homebrewed lager with the richly historied Saaz Hops (Humulus lupulus 'Saaz'). This red bine is a traditional noble aroma-type Hop that imparts an unparalleled flavor.

Grow Saaz Hops for your own use, or sell freshly picked harvests to local microbreweries in your area. Gift your community with the opportunity to appreciate exceptional seasonal batches.

Our expert growers take great pride in preparing this special legacy variety. It's well worth the time and care to protect the lineage that extends back 700 years.

Craft memorable Bohemian style Pilsners and Lagers the old-fashioned way. Add Saaz Hops to the last 15 minutes of the boil to impart that distinctive earthy herbal aroma and flavor; or use in a blended mix to balance out the citrusy American Hops.

Named after the Czech city of Žatec, Saaz Hops have been carefully regulated since the 1500s to ensure varietal clarity. There is no other Hop plant like this one.

Saaz is both low in alpha acid content and high in polyphenols. The unique chemical characteristics reduce oxidation and extend shelf life.

How to Use Saaz Hops in the Landscape

Long Hops bines need a sturdy trellis, lots of sunshine and excellent air circulation. The traditional pole trellis system adds a showy structural detail to your landscape.

Hops are frankly gorgeous. You'll enjoy a magnificent, Olde World feature and harvest a valuable cash crop at the same time.

Narrow sidearms enable closer spacing in orchard rows, but we recommend you give Saaz plenty of elbow room. Plant in-row at least 30 inches apart on center.

Create a vertical screening treatment in a strategic manner. Block unsightly views and gain a private oasis from midsummer through fall as the bines reach their full height.

Use this plant as a backdrop in a Victory Garden. Or construct an L-shaped planting on the south and west side of a long table for a delightfully shaded outdoor dining room.

Enjoy the process of planning your "ground to glass". After all, Saaz Hops deserve your most thoughtful landscape ideas, don't they?

#ProPlantTips for Care

Saaz Hops needs great air circulation to keep them healthy. To grow them in the traditional way, set tall poles in concrete footings and string sturdy twine from the top to a ground level stake.

Give them at least six hours of direct sunlight a day. Ensure the planting site has well-drained soil; or elevate the roots in a mound of fertile sandy loam.

Hop plants need a moderate amount of water on a regular basis. Mulch over the root system to help the soil stay cool, but pull it back from directly touching the stems.

Train young plants by wrapping them clockwise around your support structure. Do that pleasurable task as needed.

Consider adding a schedule of protective early treatments for mildew. After the bines reach 10 feet or so, remove the lowest leaves to increase air flow at ground level.

Order Saaz Hops from Nature Hills now and we'll ship when the time is right for planting in your area. Track the shipment from our fields right to your doorstep.
