The pretty Peek-a-Blue Russian Sage is one of the most consistently beautiful, hardy plants you can have for your yard! A variety of Russian Sage was developed for its more compact form and shorter stature! Unlike other cultivars, Peek-a-Blue Russian Sage (Salvia yangii 'WALPPB' (formerly Perovskia atriplicifolia 'WALPPB')) won't droop from lankiness and requires a lot less planting space.

Your Peek-a-Blue will grow into an ethereal, silver-lavender companion in your yard. Its finely dissected, aromatic foliage has the effect of an almost lacy appearance, its silver-green stems and leaves bedecked with clusters of delicate, lavender-blue flowers.

The blossoms will appear mid-summer and last into fall, ensuring a steady stream of pollinating visitors. Hummingbirds and butterflies will adore your Peek-a-Blue, and they're not the only ones to be drawn in closer. You'll certainly want to kneel down and enjoy the fragrant, herbal scent the entire plant exudes!

Landscape Application:

Peek-a-Blue has an elegant, rounded habit that is far less leggy than other varieties of Russian Sage. It is drought-tolerant and does well in urban conditions, small space gardens, and container gardens! Russian Sage tolerates salt spray, so use it along your street plantings and sidewalk hell strips without worry!

Butterflies, bees, and your bouquets will benefit from these airy flowering spires! But Deer will leave it alone! Plant these water-wise perennials in Cottage gardens, in Xeric Rock Garden, and throughout Mixed Perennial borders as an upright focal point that won't take up much space in width.

This compact perennial is ideal for those hot, sunny balconies, porches, and patio container gardens! Try planting Peek-a-Blue along a pathway to really enjoy the fragrant foliage, and have plenty of blooms for bouquet filler!

Try adding Russian Sage with other Russian Sage, or among other drought-tolerant perennials like Condeeflowers or Black-Eyed Susans and Ornamental Grass for a picture-perfect prairie or pollinator garden!

  • Airy Purple Spires Of Tiny Florets
  • Pollinator-Friendly & Pretty Bouquet Blooms For Months
  • Amazing Fragrance & Aromatic Foliage
  • Xeric, Erosion Control & Fire-Wise Landscaping Perennial
  • Flowering Focal Points, Beds & Borders, Containers & En Masse

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Russian Sage grows into a blessedly low-maintenance asset in your landscape! Give this sun lover well-drained soil and at least 6 hours of sunshine a day. It loves hot, dry weather and full sun all day long. This easy-to-grow perennial thrives in the heat!

However, excessive water, too little sun, or soil with poor drainage will cause Russian Sage to flop. When you plant these perennials, ensure the water drains away from the crown quickly. Elevate your planting bed, or plant in containers with lots of drainage holes or on a berm with fast-draining soil. Tolerating periodic drought, Sages flower best when they receive an even amount of water on a regular basis when young. With good drainage and plenty of sun, this water-wise plant is a flower machine from late spring to the first frost.

Prune to shape or rejuvenate in early spring, cutting back the stems at a 45-degree angle just above the lowest bud. Clean the mounds just as you notice new growth in the early spring. You can pinch back or shear plants in the late spring or early summer by half to encourage tidy mounded growth with lots of branching. Every 3-5 years, divide Russian Sage to prevent overcrowding.

  • Full Sun Lover
  • Any Well-Drained Soil Type
  • Moderate to Low Moisture Needs - Drought Tolerant Once Established
  • Prune Early Spring
  • Deer Tend to Leave This One Alone

Russian Sage is one of those plants that every garden benefits from, and Peek-a-Blue Ornamental Sage is certainly an outstanding variety. Plant a few today and you'll soon see why Peek-a-Blue is a favorite among expert and novice gardeners alike!
