A darling "Pop" of color! If you are looking for a very special small accent tree for your patio or courtyard, then look no further than the colorful good looks of the Red Pygmy® Dogwood (Cornus florida 'Rutnut')! This little spring ornamental makes a very charming choice!

Like its larger cousin, Red Pygmy® Dogwood features graceful branches and a sweetly evocative upright form. But this natural dwarf stays pint-sized, and the color is deeply enhanced! This petite tree has such showy blooms in the early spring. Held on bare branches, the "flowers" are actually four flower bracts that surround a little button of true flowers!

You'll never tire of the color play between clear red, pink-red and rose-pink. Each bloom is different and truly stands out. Every bract is spotlit by a white tip at the very center of the notched end. These outstanding spring bracts look like they were custom-designed. They'll decorate your landscape with style each spring. You'll have plenty of bees and butterflies, as well. They love the early nectar resource!

But it's not only beautiful in the spring. In the summertime, fine-textured, glossy, dark green foliage becomes a fetching robe for the lovely, upright branches. Another colorful display happens in the fall when the leaves brighten into an intensely rusty orange-red. The leaves are punctuated with bright red fruits that are relished by your local songbirds.

Dwarf Dogwood Trees are hardy and easy to grow throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 9 and form upright oval forms 5-7 feet in height and a bit slimmer in width! Their dramatic flowering and colorful foliage more than makeup for their size!

Planting and Application:

These valuable small trees fit just about anywhere. Go ahead and downsize without losing any visual appeal with Red Pygmy® Dogwood. Allow it to become a special focal point in your garden design to welcome your guests! Perfect as a specimen tree for your courtyard or entryway, Red Pygmy® can be grown either in the ground or in a large container.

Style them in dark gray or navy blue pots as a subtle enhancement to bring out the full color of Red Pygmy®. Or, make yourself smile with hot magenta pink or burgundy pots. Your yard, your choice! Your guests will be drawn to these cunning little trees! Use them as a "Thriller" in large outdoor containers for years and years.

These showy Dogwood trees are small enough to use a very special screening hedge. They'll make an incredible backdrop for your perennial border, as well! Place seating nearby, as you'll want to study the tender, multi-toned blooms. In fact, you can repeat their use in evenly spaced single or in groupings along your patio entertainment area. Plant multiple Red Pygmy® Dogwood trees four feet apart on center. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next.

Partner with other pollinator-friendly plants in a postage-stamp-sized Butterfly Garden. Look for other easy-care plants that bloom throughout the season to give you a long-lasting daily dose of joy. Keep your camera ready to take photos of all the beautiful butterflies and birds that will come visit. Add several bird feeders to further entice songbirds to visit your space.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Plant Red Pygmy® Dogwood tree in a spot that receives morning sun and dappled afternoon shade. They'll do best with at least four hours of direct sunlight a day. Plant it in slightly acidic, well-drained soil. If grown in containers, add handfuls of peat moss to the planting mix.

Use the Finger Test to determine if your plant needs water. It's important to provide a medium amount of water on a regular basis. Containerized trees and young trees in their first season may need more frequent watering. Spread a three-inch layer of pine bark mulch or pine straw spread over the root system. Prune them to shape when dormant, and after flowering, you can remove crossed branches and branches heading into the interior of the canopy.
