This vibrant and vivid Iris is a true rock star. The Red Hot Chili Tall Bearded Iris (Iris germanica 'Red Hot Chili') will treat you to a wave of yellow/speckled burgundy-purple blossoms then an encore of reblooms that are more dazzling than the best pyrotechnics! Are you ready to hop on the rollercoaster of love with this red-hot winner?
The Red Hot Chili Tall Bearded Iris explodes with a bright display of maroons and yellows. This may not be actually red in color, rather it's red-hot! This beauty features yellow falls rimmed with deep burgundy-purple edges and speckles along its ruffles. And its falls are more exciting than any punk-rock mohawk. They stand straight up and offer burgundy frills with yellow streaks, and these blooms have bright yellow beards.
These fantastic flowers show up just in time for spring to begin and just as the alluring blooms fade, the Red Hot Chili Tall Bearded Iris re-enters the stage for another show of its brightly hued blossoms!
At about half the size of your average Tall Bearded Iris, this perennial allows gardeners who are short on space to partake in the concert of colors and excitement that this Iris offers! Growing just 1-2 feet in height and width, these smaller powerhouses show off big time! Throughout USDA planting zones 3 to 8, these hardy rhizomes are politely spreading perennials!
Planting and Application:
The Red Hot Chili Tall Bearded Iris grows stiff and attractive foliage that looks grassy and glorious when not in bloom. That means these perennials can be used long after both sets of blooms have faded, becoming unique edging, backdrops, structural texture, and facer plants.
Plant your Red Hot Chili Tall Bearded Iris below your mailbox to give your postal carrier a springtime show of fantastic flowers. Or make a statement with a row of Red Hot Chili Tall Bearded Iris along your driveway or beside your patio. This striking iris will also do wonders for a woodland garden or Cottage garden.
While this Iris doesn't smell as sweet as other varieties, it does enchant winged neighbors. Pollinators and Hummingbirds enjoy stopping by the Red Hot Chili for a snack. But deer and rabbits prefer other plants and leave this one alone! Plant in drifts and large groupings so all can enjoy, while still bringing in armloads of blooms for bouquets!
Wonderfully sized for gardeners who do not have room in the garden can plant these space-saving perennials in a container or terra cotta pot! Every porch and patio becomes a stage with these showy perennials as both the feature planting with some spillers around the edge or as a vibrant pop of color and vertical texture when combined in a mixed planter!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
For best results, plant your Red Hot Chili Tall Bearded Iris in well-drained soil in full or partial sun. It does best in low or moderate-moisture soil of varying soil types. This low-maintenance Iris likes to be watered well while rooting, but once established the fleshy rhizomes are drought-tolerant. Cover the roots with a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch to hold moisture in the soil better and insulate the rhizomes.
Information About Bare Root Iris
Bare root Iris are shipped as nice fresh-cut divisions with two to three fans of green tops. Keep in mind each Iris variety can have slightly different-sized roots. Container plants are well-grown in the nursery for several years in their container to establish a strong root system.
When planting Iris, which are best planted in early to mid-fall, ensure 1/3rd of the rhizome is exposed to sunlight with the roots buried underneath. Note, that it's best to cover the rhizome with a thin layer of mulch or leaves to protect it during the coldest months but make sure to uncover them in the spring.
