The Elizabeth Sedum (Sedum spurium 'Elizabeth Red Carpet'), also known as Sedum Red Carpet, is a short ground cover that is a little different from the rest. The foliage is a dark red with green and produces a wonderful fall color! Elizabeth has red star-shaped blooms that flower from May to September!

The dainty star-shaped flowers are the most alluring bright pink and butterflies and bumblebees will be drawn in all summer until autumn. The red-blushed green leaves create succulent mats that creep and ramble in tight low-growing mounds throughout the sun garden! The tiny scalloped leaves are held on red stems for extra interest! Then in fall, the entire plant takes on a deeper red hue!

Cold and heat-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 9, Red Carpet Stonecrop is a Creeping Sedum variety that only grows 3-4 inches tall when in bloom but can spread wide at up to 2 feet! Even when going dormant the flower heads look great in the winter garden with snow or ice frosting them. Birds arrive to pluck seeds for a fall snack, and you can use the dried blooms in your winter crafts!

Planting and Application:

Elizabeth Stonecrop is a great choice for beds and borders! Use these colorful low-growing mats as living mulch to cover bare ground and line garden edges as filler, spiller, and trailing over the sides of the landscape beds! Easing the transition between lawn and garden. Red Carpet creates lovely filler and spillers in pots and planters on the sun-drenched deck or poolside container garden! Brighten up the porch or patio with starry red blooms

Plant these low-growers among mixed Perennial gardens, Cottage borders, and rambling at the feet of Rose bushes or other flowering shrubs! An extra bonus is created when you plant this Creeping Stonecrop in front of Asters or Coneflowers.

These hardy little gems are especially good for use on hot sunny hillsides and hard-to-mow slopes to slow erosion and rainwater, spilling over the tops of retaining walls, and brightening Xeric locations. Rock Garden, tucked into rock walls, and Crevice Gardens, or the hell strip along the road are also perfect for these salt, heat, and drought-resistant plants!
