Decorate the sun-soaked areas of your living space with one or several of the gorgeous Purple Satin® Rose of Sharon Tree Form (Hibiscus syriacus 'ILVOPS'). These small flowering trees feature dramatically single, cupped blooms. Our expert team has taken one of the prettiest modern Rose of Sharon deciduous shrubs and crafted an attractive solution to today's biggest challenges.

Sophisticated deep purple petals are accentuated with a coordinating crimson eye and creamy-white center. These are noteworthy blooms that capture attention from a distance. You'll also enjoy studying them up close. You'll have to wait your turn though - flocks of bees and butterflies, and even Hummingbirds flock to these nectar and pollen-rich blooms!

Now, these useful tree forms feature a purple flowering canopy on a standard trunk! You won't have to bend or squat to see the fabulous purple petals. They'll be held at eye level for an enchanting display that lasts from summer until fall! Decorate your landscape for months with these special Woody Hibiscus flowers. These small trees add so much personality and charm for you year after year with proper care.

Each marvelously tropical-looking bloom shows their Tropical Hibiscus relations, but this modern Althea produces very few if any, seeds! Use these non-invasive plants wherever you get at least six hours of sunlight a day without fretting. Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 9, they vigorously grow to an 8 to 12 feet tall shrub with narrow growing 4-6 foot canopy.

Planting and Application:

There are so many ways to enjoy these plants. Add them where you want a bold pop of floral fantasy and the cool, green screen of textured foliage. On properties with mature landscaping, you can add Purple Satin® Rose of Sharon Tree Forms for color. Add one at the start of an existing hedge and one at the end!

Perk up your porch, patio, balcony, or deck with a pair. You'll be able to easily screen out an unfortunate modern view and still have enough room to sit and enjoy their flowering shade. Grow them in the ground, or use them as a "Thriller" in an extra-large container. They instantly make a moment happen, no matter where you place them.

We encourage you to really enjoy your home and garden. Not just the patio, either. Make space for yourself and your family. This is a great choice to boost the look of small space gardens. Add even one and you'll effortlessly elevate the tone! No wonder these tree-form plants are growing so popular.

Why not run a series of these along the length of your fence? Give it full sun and medium moisture, and they'll add height, specimen plantings, and effortless charm. Consider them the "living wallpaper" in a chic Garden Room. Create tall walls with Hedge Cotoneaster, Linebacker Distylium, Bay Laurel, or Cherry Laurel.

Then, add three, five, or seven Purple Satin Rose of Sharon Tree Form. Even space your plants six feet apart on center, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next.

If you've already gone all-in on a modern Victory Garden, leverage the flower power of Purple Satin® Rose of Sharon Tree Form to draw pollinators. Plant a row of them on the company side of your Kitchen Garden, and you'll likely see much larger harvests.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

The needs of these marvelous Rose of Sharon trees are quite simple. Site them correctly, water them regularly and you'll enjoy a great performance year after year! Ensure they have plenty of sun, and well-drained soil is important. Use at least a 20" outdoor container, or build a raised bed if you see puddles for a long time after rainfall. These tree-form plants need a medium amount of water on a regular basis. Make getting out in your yard and running the hose on them a wonderful part of your weekly routine. Give them a 3-4 inch layer of wood mulch over the root systems. Don't let the mulch touch the trunk, pull it back for proper air circulation.

You'll need to prune Althea once a year in early spring. We recommend that you study your shrub throughout the year to develop a yearly pruning plan. Or simply follow these simple steps: Once that nice spring weather makes an appearance, grab those sharpened shears and reduce the overall size of your Tree Form to a two to three-foot rounded sphere. If you happen to have a larger, older, shrub, feel free to shear back to a three to four-foot rounded sphere in late spring. Renewal prune every 3-5 years to maintain vigor.

Open the canopy to allow sunlight and air circulation. Remove crossing branches, thin out new growth, and reduce the height as desired. Just make sure that you're done pruning by the time new growth starts. Otherwise, you might accidentally damage the flowers that are developing!

Fertilize in early spring, as well. Make sure you get a formula for flowering plants. Keep nitrogen-rich lawn fertilizer well away from your Rose of Sharon tree-form plant.

Although rated as deer resistant, we always recommend that you spray repellent on all new plants if you live with deer pressure. Deer are hungry and curious, so you'll want to reapply according to the directions.

Tree Form vs. Shrub Form

The details make all the difference in a garden. At Naturehills.com, we understand that little things like what form a plant is can greatly impact how you plan your landscape. So before you buy, don't forget to check which form you're getting.

Tree Form:

These are plants that have one stem coming from the ground. Plants can also be considered single stem when lower branches are removed to raise the height of the branching to a more desired height. Sometimes, you will hear a tree form referred to as a single stem.

Shrub Form:

These are bushy plants with many stems and branchings close to the ground. They are referred to as shrubs or bushes and are often shorter than their tree forms.
