Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Nature Hills is thrilled to offer expertly grown fruiting trees for Edible Landscapes. You'll enjoy the satisfying feeling of improved food security with these productive trees!

The satisfying Purple Heart (also known as Sharp Velvet) Pomegranate (Punica granatum 'Purple Heart') is gaining a reputation for its gorgeous, deep red rind and rich, velvety deep red arils. It looks great quartered on a plate, and the appealing flavor is winning many fans. Not quite as tart as others, Purple Heart (Sharp Velvet) is sweet and juicy, with just the right amount of tangy taste to balance.

Pomegranates are also beautiful plants for the landscape. Their red-orange blooms look amazing, and bring a much-needed nectar source for pollinators and Hummingbirds. Densely held, tropical-looking foliage gleams in the sunshine. Prune it to any size you like, or let it grow out as an ornamental tree.

Enjoy the jewel-toned harvest with a pronounced calyx. Purple Heart (Sharp Velvet) develops as a deliciously deep red fruit. Press them for juice, or quarter and peel them to add the bold arils to salads and smoothies. A fresh Pomegranate is an enjoyable exercise in mindful eating. You can even reduce the juice down to create your own cocktail mixer. Give your syrupy molasses a "brand name" for signature drinks!

People across the country are on the hunt for fruiting plants. Our limited inventory of Purple Heart (Sharp Velvet) Pomegranate will go quickly. Order today!

How to Use Purple Heart (Sharp Velvet) Pomegranate in the Landscape

These desirable plants are very versatile. Train them up as a single-trunk or multi-trunk tree-form, or keep the lower branches on for a hard-working shrub!

Give it a place of pride in your landscape. You'll elicit tons of questions from curious friends and family members. Kids love watching the developing cycle from flower to fruit, and you will, too. Let it pull double duty as a shade tree for their play structure.

Plant on the south or southwest of your patio and you'll gain blissful shade for fun afternoon get-togethers. Best in a mulched bed, Purple Heart (Sharp Velvet) is a great conversation piece.

You'll get fruit from a single, self-pollinating plant. However, planting more than one, or adding another variety will boost your productivity.

Use in an informal grouping in a mulched planting bed. Or, Espalier your trees against a flat wall or sturdy fence.

Keep them small for easy harvest, or enjoy their full size as a landscape tree. Join the Edible Landscaping trend!

#ProPlantTips for Care

Easy to grow, the Purple Heart (Sharp Velvet) Pomegranate needs at least four hours of direct sunlight a day. Remember - more sun = more fruit! Plant in well-drained soils that don't hold onto water for long. Elevate your tree in a planting mound or raised bed to improve drainage, if needed. Apply mulch to keep the root system cool. Add a three-inch layer, then pull it back away from the trunk.

Give your Pomegranate tree regular water until the roots are well established. Although mature trees will tolerate periodic drought, supplemental water supports good fruit development.

Prune in late winter to eliminate crossing branches and branches growing into the canopy. You want to open the canopy to sunlight and air circulation. During early fruiting, thin the harvest to a single piece of fruit per six inches. This gives your fruit the room it needs to reach full size.

Through fruit development, apply a periodic application of an organic fertilizer for fruiting plants. Follow the directions on the package.

You'll appreciate the extremely high quality of our commercial-orchard-grade fruiting trees. Place your order for Purple Heart (Sharp Velvet) Pomegranate from NatureHills.com today!
