Sweet and juicy Polka Raspberry (Rubus 'Polka') will have you dancing around your garden this fall! These hardy plants will produce up to double the yields of other Raspberry bushes! Polka is a nearly thornless Raspberry that consistently produces juicier, firmer, sweeter berries than other Raspberry bushes.
Late spring and summer bring cheerful white blossoms that the bees and butterflies adore! Then, imagine going into your garden when the fall air is starting to turn chilly and the leaves are starting to change colors and picking delicious red Raspberries to your heart's content. You can do it if you plant a few Polka Raspberries in your garden this year!
The color isn't as deep red as you might be used to with store-bought berries, but the taste is much more intense when you grow them yourself! These great berries ripen earlier than others too, and continue bearing until the first frost. That means that you have an extended harvest season!
Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 8, Polka is a Primocane with a mid to late-season harvest of juicy berries! Growing just 4-6 feet in height, these fruiting shrubs spread just 1-2 feet wide.
Planting and Application:
Train your tall and slender growing Polka Raspberry onto a fence or trellis, creating a columnar fruiting edible landscaping specimen that looks great in any sunny garden location! You can even grow these plants in a container on a sunny porch or patio!
These are self-pollinators, so you don't really need to order other plants, but you always get better yields when you plant a friend nearby. Try Joan J Raspberry as a companion plant, with both shrubs enjoying increased pollination and harvest.
These are great berries for kids and grown-ups alike. The nearly-thornless canes are ouch-free picking and look great anywhere in the garden! You can plant these canes by walkways and patios and not worry about snagging clothing as badly as you would if they had thorns.
Tall enough to use as flowering and fruiting backdrops, hedges for screening, and tall specimens in the Kitchen and Veggie garden! Groupings and rows of mixed Brambles so that you and the birds can all enjoy!
- Large, Intensely Flavorful, Sweet, Pale Red Berries
- Cheerful White Blossoms For Pollinators
- Double The Harvest Compared To Other Raspberries
- Nearly Thornless Canes & Columnar Form
- Versatile Landscape Fruiting Ornamental!
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Give Polka good drainage and plenty of sun, at least 6 hours of direct sun and you'll be picking berries sooner than you can imagine! Raspberry plants need good air circulation, and you'll want to access the entire plant to harvest your crop. You can add a slow-release fertilizer in early spring. For proper application rates, follow label directions.
Well-drained soils are important. Plant in raised beds to improve drainage. Berry bushes also need regular water. You can even push the backfill soil into a small berm to help keep water near the roots. Drip irrigation or soaker hoses are a great time-saver, and a three-inch layer of mulch to cut down on surface evaporation.
These Primocane Raspberries grow from the roots in the spring and are considered first-year canes. Primocanes are also called fall-bearing, these canes also produce fruit in the fall, on the branch tips. Prune the tips of the Primocanes once they have grown a few feet tall. During the spring, before they start growing.
- Cold Hardy Full Sun
- Widely Adaptable Most Well-Drained Soils
- Loves Regular Moisture
- Prune Everbearing After Fruiting
- Provide Regular Fertility
