This is a small tree to cherish in your landscape. Use the handsome Persian Ironwood tree (Parrotia persica) as a dramatic and sophisticated accent.
With a muscular trunk and strong branches, Ironwood will charm you with their striking, architectural good looks all year-long.
A member of the Witch Hazel family, these rugged trees develop wildly colorful foliage in both early spring and again in fall. The yellow, orange and red fall display is held a long time, and their fiery tones light up your autumn landscape.
Small space gardens don't have room for a "one trick pony", but there is no fear of that with Ironwood. The ornamental features just keep coming.
Even the intricate, dark red flowers in late winter and early spring are worthy of reflection. They are borne against the bare, exfoliating bark and make a pretty picture to welcome a new growing season.
Steal a few boughs to create a cunningly elegant interior cut flower display in a tall, skinny vase. The butterflies will still have plenty of these early season nectar resources to enjoy on the tree.
Once the flowers are fading, the new leaves come out. They'll be dressed in their purple and bronze-toned finery and age to a lovely, glossy, dark green in summer.
The canopy of green leaves is dense, and casts a refreshing shade. Persian Ironwood stays compact enough to use in the front yard.
You can enjoy a tiny grove of these stunning plants in the backyard. Feel decadent relaxing on your hammock, enjoying their cool upright branches and the large, ruffle-edged leaves.
Beautify your space for your friends and family. Make a spot for these enchanting, easy-care trees.
Persian Ironwood is a small tree that adds such a bold personality and welcome shade, without asking for much in return. You'll love the way mature trees bring out the best in your landscape.
The popularity of these underutilized, yet highly desirable, small trees is exploding. Professional garden designers are regularly adding them at high-end residential and commercial properties for incredible fall color.
Don't miss out on our limited inventory of expertly grown, commercial-grade plants. Order Persian Ironwood trees from Nature Hills today!
How to Use Persian Ironwood in the Landscape
Use one to the side of your home, or at the corner of your foundation planting. Expand the mulched bed as you need to, in order to include the tree in your existing plantings as a unified whole.
Space them 20 feet away from your home or structures. If you'd like to create an informal grouping of multiple trees, vary the spacing between them from 15 to 25 feet apart.
These trees can also be used as an eye-catching avenue along the driveway. You might decide to keep the spacing even and regular, in that application.
Place one on the southwestern side of your patio seating. You'll love the long shadows in the heat of the afternoon.
Need a little boost of privacy? All the lower branches to grow in. They'll make a terrific screening plant for the right spot.
Keep the trunk limbed up for a special specimen tree. Use just one tree in your lawn, or include several to decorate a berm.
Why not start a winding garden path just beyond a Persian Ironwood? Add a bench or two underneath to create a lovely (and hard-working!) garden feature. Your yard will look larger if you build a sense of mystery and anticipation.
