#ProPlantTips for Care:
Dahlia flowers are easy and can be planted anywhere where there's full sun! You'll love how the color shines in the sun. The Penhill Dark Monarch Dahlia doesn't need a specific kind of soil pH-wise, however, Plant Dahlia tubers in well-drained soil so the roots don't drown. Water this pink Dahlia regularly and keep it moist during its first growing season! During heat spells and long droughts, you may have to water often! Mulched beds will reduce evaporation and keep the soil moisture consistent for these tubers.
Even though they are often referred to as 'bulbs' the roots of the Dahlia are tubers like potatoes and sprout from the 'eyes'. Plant Dahlia tubers between 10-12 inches deep in loosened, enriched soil. These modified roots need to be planted in very well-drained soil that won't become soggy. Tubers planted directly in the ground will start to sprout in about 3 weeks depending on your climate and weather.
Deadhead regularly for continuous rebloom and trim back yellowed foliage in the fall. Dig up the tubers for the winter. Store these bulbs in a cool, dark place for the winter.
While Dahlia can be planted in all growing zones, climates with cold winters need to "lift" the tubers in the fall before the ground freezes and store them for the winter. In frost-free winters, Dahlia can be kept in-ground all year round!
