Plant Sentry™
Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.
This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.
Standard Shipping Rates
At Nature Hills we handle, package and ship the products you order with the utmost care to ensure healthy delivery. Shipping and handling charges are calculated based on the tables below. Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

For the perfect gift plant or high-style accent for your home or office, you need to check out the traditional living art form called Kokedama! Kokedama is a form of Bonsai where a plant has its roots and soil bundled in a ball of moss and wrapped in twine or string, eliminating the need for a pot or container! Easy to care for and maintain, Kokedama has been practiced in Japan for centuries, translating literally as 'Moss Ball'.
You'll love the colorful and interesting Prayer Plant (Calathea makoyana) especially when elevated into the traditional art form of Kokedama! Also known as Makoyana Calathea, Peacock Plants or Cathedral Windows, these tropical houseplants feature striking, geometric patterns of alternating dark and light green pattern that covers every leaf! These glossy oval leaves also feature purple tinges and purple undersides, creating even more interest as they fold and unfold their leaves each day! Just like other Prayer Plants, Calathea folds shut every evening and opens again each morning!
Calathea are beautiful air purifying plants that improve your health while increasing oxygen levels in your home or office! Calatheas are carefree tropical houseplants that do not need much in the way of fussing over or care!
Displaying Your Kokedama!
These easy-care houseplants are thoughtful and unique housewarming gifts, hostess gifts, or celebratory gifts all around - perfect for newbies and experienced gardeners alike! Best of all, the Kokedama root 'binding' method - they will never need to be repotted! Hang from a macrame planter or suspended plant swing before a bright window. Prayer Plants are fantastic little accents when included in a hanging or wall display on a sunny wall of your living room.
Forgiving and easy-going plants, Makoyana Calathea Kokedama are unique living works of art for work or home! The pattern and tri-color of these leaves when paired with the lovely Kokedama ball become a beautiful focal point anywhere you display it! Ideal for a sunny bookcase or coffee table, they are surefire conversation starters! Set one on a side table or a bright front entry console to welcome you and your guests into your home.
Tabletop displays of Prayer Plants are truly eye-catching accents! Display your Kokedama on a polished flat stone, in a pretty ceramic tray, set in a shallow glass dish, or carved stone bowl to keep moisture away from the furniture.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
These vibrant houseplants show off in any kind of bright yet indirect sunlight for the best growth and color. They can also tolerate some partial shade and office lighting too, although you may lose out on some of that bold color in lower light conditions. Check out the full details on caring for your Kokedama Here in our Garden Blog!
Calatheas are sensitive to fluoride and chlorine from tap water, so provide filtered water or bottled water to soak your plant in. To water your Kokedama, simply submerge the bottom 3/4ths of your moss ball in a dish or the sink and let soak for 5-10 minutes. Remove to a draining area for 20 minutes to let excess water run out of the root system. Then place it back into its display! Repeat as necessary, maintaining a moderate yet consistent moisture level.
Because of many factors, the watering frequency will vary throughout the year. Dry winters with dehumidifiers running may require soaking a couple of times a week! If your Kokedama is as light as air or your plant is wilting, you need to check it more often, or soak it a bit longer each time. Water a bit more regularly and don't allow them to dry out between waterings if you are noticing the edges of your plants becoming brown or drying out, or change what kind of water you are using to soak your plant in.
- Use room temperature filtered, purified, or bottled water - even rainwater
- Bright Indirect Light - Avoid direct sunlight
- Soak for 5-10 minutes & let drain completely
- Avoid AC & heating vent drafts
- Use half-strength fertilizer in the soaking water in spring & fall
