Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment

Growing Zones 8 - 10
The unique foliage and white blossoms of the Oxalis Decorative Planter (Oxalis triangularis) is a pretty bulb plant with three-leafed shamrock-like foliage that is so dark purple it is almost black! The center of each leaflet is a subtle maroonish-plum chevron, holding its foliage aloft on slender stems like little umbrellas.
Your Oxalix Decorative Planter arrives with everything you need to grow your easy to force dormant bulbs for winter or spring indoor decor - a decorative planter, liner, soil pellet, and complete instructions on how to force your Oxalis bulbs with ease! Growing fast, Oxalis begin to bloom clusters of dainty white five-petalled blossoms that can sometimes have a pink tinge.
Arriving with a pretty antique, copper-colored, decorative outer planter, the dormant bulbs grow fast. Oxalis are fall-planted perennial bulbs that are hardy throughout USDA planting zones 8-10, growing just 6 inches tall and a bit wider once fully grown.
Planting and Application:
Gorgeous porch and patio decor, or even interiorscapes throughout your home in bright indirectly sunny windows in the autumn, winter, or spring! Although Oxalis is a perennial, this plant blooms like an annual from late spring to early fall if kept moist. These are annuals outdoors but can be brought inside for the winter as houseplants.
Also known as Purple Shamrocks, Oxalis form a low mound that is the perfect size for edging or container fillers! Like many Oxalis, the leaves of this variety close up at night or when light levels are very low, adding motion and kid-friendly elements to your garden!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Purple Shamrocks are root hardy in USDA growing zones 8-10. Growing best in full sun outdoors, or bright indirect sun indoors, preferring any type of well-drained soil. Loving moderate consistent, moderate moisture and these are heavy feeders. Container-grown plants should be kept just moist when dormant. The first sign that a plant is entering dormancy is leaf die-back. If this begins to occur, stop watering and fertilizing the plant.
When leaves turn yellow, they can be cut back or allowed to die back on their own. The plant should be moved to a cool, dark place for one to three months, after which new foliage will start emerging from the soil. When this occurs, move the plant to a full sun location and restart the process over again by watering and fertilizing. Refrigerate the bulbs until you are ready to plant them.
- Full Sun & Part Sun Outside & Bright Indirect Sun Indoors
- Well-Drained Moist Soil
- Regular Fertility
- Fast Growing & Easy Care
- Vigorous Annual, Houseplant, or Perennial in Warm Zones
